Martin, ditto Jimmie's post on taste....however, the bird netting (yes, from Lowes) allowed the figs to mature properly and the flavor doubled and tripled in quality. At this later stage, the taste is so much more concentrated, bursting in your mouth and shocking the senses. It is sweet, of course, but not syrupy sweet. It loses some of its spiciness, but gains in the deep fig flavor we all crave.
I had my wife do a blind taste test with the Celestes. Big mistake. Now she won't touch the Celestes and we are left fighting over one more fig type. :)

Nana, thanks for posting pictures of your HC. They do have similarities. I also have an HC along with the two Sal variants which will have mature figs later this summer.
I wish Herman would give his opinion as his quick ID of Obama's fig was an incredible feat.
