No Brebas!

Hi guys!
I have a question about breba figs. How to get the tree to produce them?
Mine is pushing main crop fig already...
I want to try a breba instead but none of my trees produce any.
here is a picture of the main crop fig forming.

Speedmaster,
good question!
However, figs are genetically built to be either uniferous (1 crop) or biferous (2 crop)

Biferous figs are either:
San Pedro - 2 crop: Breba (ripening in May?) and main crop to ripe in September but need wasp!
Cachopeiro (Port.classification) - again 2 crop: Breba ripe in May and main in September without wasp

You cannot force a fig to give you brebas!

Occasionally an uniferous type gives a lone Breba but, that is an 'accident' !

By this time many 'uniferous' types show figlets positioned to give you the ilusion of would be Brebas.
The great majority will dry and fall to the ground. Many common and Smyrna varieties do this.

Thanks Francisco for the information!
I guess I wanted to see a huge breba form too bad to want to force the tree to produce some.

How huge ?  would 200 gram fruit be enough ?...black..dark or white ??
May be we can do something about it .. and,  once you have the wasp somewhere, we could even make it better.

Wow! I didn't know figs can get to 200 grams!
What dark varieties can do this?

I thought the crop you are getting now is breba? How can you tell that is the main crop and not breba. ? Does breba grow in different spot?

Yeah, brebas grow under the leaves and grow on last year's wood. This one is on this year's wood.

Speedmaster,

Various dark figs may show brebas of that caliber
The one I like best is this one,... (a San Pedro - Lampeira Preta)
In your grounds may well show brebas in May and main crop by the end of August

Nice pic Lampo. I guess I have to give Lampeira another try. I gave my plant away after its figs never seem to be
able to hang on. The receiver of my plant experience similar issues and he got rid of it. I have 2 excellent breba
variants like Desert King and Granthams Royal. Hopefully I can add another good one. I have Filancciano & Fiorione
du Ruvo but their taste is not even as good as DK or Granthams R.

Hey Paully. Have you tried Peters honey? I have second leaf and is full of brebas! They look pretty strong too, like the kind that stay on and ripen. Let's see what happens.

Paully

Thanks. That is correct ..this variety does need early warm days and much sunlight
Typically these brebas start growing still during the month of February
Your zone may not give it exactly what is needed at the right time.
Also,  I believe that it does not like growing in small pots.

Regardless all efforts and best procedures neither Desert King nor Granthams Royal (Dauphine) , could yet show,  in my environment (equiv to zone 11)  any acceptable fruit. Other factors may be involved as well.

Hi Lampo,
Do you have a pic with those figs split opened ?
How were your Dauphine ? I just got one young tree end of last season ...

Those are amazing and large I searched for information on them. Lampeira Preta seems to be an amazing variety in size and taste!
