No Figs?

I have a question about why my Raspberry Latte Fig has not set any fruit this year, last year I got 6 Fig and I chalked it up to it being a young tree, so I thought that this year would be better, however not one fruit has formed, any reason?

by the way it is the best Figs I have ever tasted

thanks

Your situation could be one of a young tree using too much energy to produce those figs last year or most likely problem with no production is not enough light

Thanks for you reply, however the tree is planted in my front yard in Full Sun, and is watered very well, I could see that young Fig could be aborted because of lack of energy, but no fruit at all?

thanks again

hmm.. your profile says you are in tustin.. i assume that's in CA. and it's in full sun and watered well.. and in ground too. try pinching it. maybe it's putting all the energy into vegetative growth and ignoring the figs. are you fertilizing it?

Probably growing roots and establishing, you should have a banner year next yr

Yeah I'm in CA, Orange County, maybe that's what's going on, rooting in, so hopefully next year will be better, I'll try pinching too.

Thanks, J

Another question is with my Black Mission, which is planted about 30 feet from the Raspberry Latte,. I have grown that tree from a cutting and after,6 years I have yet to get a ripe fig off of it, last year there were maybe 50 fruit on it and none of them ripened, they turned yellow/brown, and when soft were dry inside, this year there were 48 figs set in early spring, they all aborted and now there is a new set going that are still small.

Again any thoughts about this is appreciated and thanks

pix of the two trees will help. if Raspberry Latte is growing well with healthy leaves, but just do not have figs, i won't worry too much. it gave figs last yr, so sooner or later it will give again. pinching can promote fig production and also branching. it's july now.. so if you weather is good till early nov. i guess pinching might help. othe

as to your Black Mission, pix will definitely help. the pix of the mature leave and the fig. also fig cut in half to show the inside. maybe, your Black Mission isn't really a Black Mission?

I noticed that one of my in ground trees started at the same time as another of the same variety grown in a pot have different rates of growth and fig production. In ground has triple the growth as potted and slower to form figs. My potted panache has lots of figs ready/almost ready now. In ground panAche has tiny to small figlets still. Over time I think the in ground will outpace the potted one in fruit production since it's a bigger tree especially if I pinch earlier.

I have several potted conadria started from same batch of cuttings. I noticed that one of them has lots of branches naturallh without pinching but has no figs. I think it's putting energy into growing the branches. The other ones with less branches have figs ripe/ripening. Just my observation.

I think BLB is spot-on with his first post. I had a small Preto that gave me a couple of figs last year. I probably should have removed them to allow it to establish but chose to roll the dice. They were delicious, but I paid for the indulgence. This year, it has grown considerably but no figs. No worries. I'm sure next year will be much better. Hang in there. You'll enjoy fruit next season.
