No figs for me this year

Checking on my trees a few weeks ago, I noticed nothing happening. No leafs, no growth nada. I scratched the bark and no green. I had 4 trees that would've given me figs this year, but they are dead and gone. Sigh, the winters have been rough. I pulled out my largest tree with no effort. The roots were gone. The others pretty much the same. I did put them in the fig burial ground just in case. But I think they're done. Maybe next year. I have small ones that were started this winter indoors. I guess I'll buy the dried ones from nuts.com.

Sorry to hear this.

Hi Smaritza,
Time for you to think about a winter protection plan .
I had to make my own 3 years ago and since then I'm an happy figger ... Most of the years :) .
What were your temp lows ? Which usda zone are "you supposed" to be in ?
Tough hobby, but they say: no pain, no... figs !

You are right Jdsfrance. I have a shed, but I'm afraid to go in there. So I guess if I want figs, that's where they will be this winter.

Smaritza, I'm so sorry to hear that.
PM sent.

Thanks Rui. Just when I thought I was home free.

Sorry to hear Smaritza,

I lost tons of trees (and lots of $) in the past 2 winters. They have been hell for me. I have managed to create a couple of systems so that I can keep my trees through the winter: all in containers, and all I must pamper during the winter. Every attempt to plant inground has failed thus far. Only one of my covered figs made it through this winter, and it was damaged to the roots. There is a smalll piece of green finally coming out in the past 2 weeks. It will not be fruiting this year, for sure.

I don't have anything in your wish list, but I would spare a small tree if you come around Ossining. PM if interested.

These past few winters have been exceptional. The tiny ones I have in water bottles will have to be house plants this coming winter. Keeping my fingers cross for a mild winter..
