Noire de Caromb

Hi everybody! How can i have(pay or trade other cuttings) for 1 cutting of Noire de Caromb?? My name Marius and my email is mnedelcu2002@yahoo.com   Thank you.

Marcuis,

You got mail....

I have read that some think it is the same as kathleens black but noire de caromb looks a lot smaller in pictures than kb.  Any thoughts on this?  And if they are different, which one is more cold hardy?

Here's how the real Noire de Caromb should look like.

Some nurseries in France have mistakingly sold unknown dark figs under the name Noire de Caromb. This photo shows the correct variety that grows in the village of Caromb.
In 1863 there was a vine disease hurt the agriculture badly in southern France, since they grew mostly grape vines. So the village of Caromb relied on the black fig native to the area and it became the main producer of the fig they named Noire de Caromb.

My 2 Cents:IF Bass pix, represents,Breba ,Noire de Caromb, then,I have no doubt,Kathleen Black is Identical to Noire de Caromb.
That is because I had breba and main crop, off my Kathleen Black.
My opinion:The above pix are Breba figs.
Main crop on Kathleen Black were smaller and not so much elongated,+They had a richer taste compared to Breba.
PS:Marcello Filochiaro,an accomplished gardener in France, with whom I traded cuttings 3 years ago, told me that Noire de Caromb, doesn't have very tasty fruits,so,he dosn't  recomend it forme, yet he gave me at least one cultivar, turned out exceptional,in trade,so I have no reason to doubt him.
So presently,I am very pleased with Kathleen Black,as a large black fig, moderatelly hardy,to this point, and ,I am not even looking for Noire de Caromb, because I do not think will be a better fig compared to Kathleen Black.

Good info Herman. I hope to get some figs from my KB this season. Did you plant KB in the ground ?

For me Noire de Caromb is a very good fig with a excellent unique taste.

I have KB too, but not tasted the fruit yet.
For Gene and Herman claim its very good taste, I am curious for trying it this this season.

Figs like Noire de Caromb, and Kathleen Black is the reason I would not buy or trade for a fig based on it's name. I stopped buying figs from nurseries because of the confusion there appears to be on names.

I now only buy or trade from collectors who have their own  nurseries or will trade with me, and also buy or trade from them based on their evaluation of a fig, and not so much a figs name.

Until DNA testing becomes less expensive I think  there will always be doubt as to whether or not a certain fig is true to name or not. Which will also only be reliable if the people doing the DNA testing have the correct original to start with.

I have Kathleen's Black and more then likelywill not try to obtain Noire de Caromb, unless those collectors who have both start to report that Noire de Caromb is better tasting and more cold Hardy then Kathleen's Black.

The taste of the figs depends on environmental factors and terroir of the soil.

I have heard Noire de Carombe to bean excellent tasting fig.

So I herd myself ,and the Gardener in Valleiry,France ,might not have the Summer heat to get them ripe properly, his village being,at 800m altitude in the Alps.
So because he knew I live in a cold climate, too, he thought it might not be good for me also
