Looks good.

Leaf in background looks similar to a fig in USA called Kathleen's Black.

May be one in the same.

If I remember correctly. Kathleen Black was discovered in Maryland. USA by a reputable fig enthusiast.

The leaves on the NdC is similar, if not the same, as Kathleen's Black. The fruit is similar, if not, the same as well.

Many of the experts here who have grown figs for 30 years or so, have concluded they are the same.

The Noire de Caromb was very late to get introduced here so the name' Kathleen's Black' was introduced before it was known as a French fig.

Tq Dominick , its nice to learn  about KB vs NDC  varian from you since I am a newbie on this forum

Have a nice week end.n best regards.

Does the NdC ripen in cool climates like the KB does?

Time will tell what NDC  does in my climate if it makes it out of dormancy in my garage but if Maderia is any indication then it will do just fine here growing in a pot.

Hi RC ,

NDC  is very suitable in our/Indonesias Climate ,

I got rid of my Pastiliere because of its habit in dropping figs.

My Pastiliere also dropped figs and I discarded.
For Dieseler:If Madeira black get ripe in your climate no doubt Noire de Caromb will too!.
Especially if similar to Kathleen black which get ripe very well here in ground,While Madeira black is very slow to ripe here.

How about taste, Alan?

Salam

NDC fruit Pic when its ripe, the taste is good and very sweet. but less sweet compare to Tena Fig .

Best Regards

Zaitun:The NDC you show is Breba fruit,in my opinion.
The late main crop is much sweeter and more Flavorfull,on  most varieties, included NDC.
And yes NDC Breba is identical to Kathleen black Breba

TQ Herman , for your nice information about NDC & KB

Have a nice weekend.
best rgrds

Zaitun, my pastilere last season its 3rd still drop many figs but started to hold onto more of them that ripen fully. I grow all my plants in container . This season will be its 4th i watch it as well to see if it does better or not.

Salam..

Martin TQ for sharing  your pastilere information.
Last year I planted the Pastielere tree in pot 70 Cm , it produced a lot of fruit but It Dropped.  7 months ago , I moved the tree in the ground but still do the same.

I also has " Main crops Fruit Dropped Problem" with Dauphine due to  high rainy season .this month .
I attached the "Piere Baud Email Explanation"  about Pastiliere  and Dauphine fruit dropped problem.

Have a good weekend.

Best Regards.

Hello,

PASTILIERE and DAUPHINE usually do not need pollination. They produce well on the North of France where we don’t have Blastophaga.

Hypothesis;

-          Bad adaptation to your climate conditions. DALMATIE for example is nice in the North of France but bad in La Réunion. COL DE DAME is nice in Spain but bad in South Africa…

-          Too much humidity in the soil or/and in the air.

-          Too much nitrogen and/or not enough potassium.

Best regards.

Zaitun, you should try LSU varieties. These varieties were introduced for zones with higher humidity. Many good reports have come out from Louisiana & Florida regarding their good performance of LSU varieties like LSU Gold, Purple, Improved Celeste, Tiger, Scotts Blk etc.

Salam ,

Tq Paul ,for your nice  varieties recommendation
Hopefully I could have them some day.

Best regards

Zaitun i read your last post about Pastiliere and Dauphine growing conditions .

Last season my pastiliere was put into 25 gallon pot from previous season and i started to make my  mix with lots of composted manure , organic humus, perlite, lime etc.
It responded better but not sure why,   maybe as it ages it will continue to ripen more is my hope .

It does look like the one from Europe from what i see and had a member over seas that saw my pictures of it also confirm as well to his tree.

Time will tell but i do not rush father time i want to it to slow actually as i age too !

Thank you very much Zaitun for sharing Pierre Baud's hypothesis. Don't give up Pastiliere and Dauphine yet!

Martin- By using compost you may have boosted the Potassium content in your containers. Some composts have K spikes as they decompose further past mature.

I have been aware of the recommendation for ample K and got myself a big bag of Fertrell Super K 3-4-7. It also has crab meal chitin which is good for nematode control. I noticed that the potted figs that got a good helping of this stuff last July really beefed up their stems and slowed their growth nicely.

i am excited about both of my NdC and Pastillliere. I got 2 Pastillieres currently in containers. Mine did fruit for me but the figs acted like my Alma tree when it was in a container...all ugly with muitiple colors. I am hoping Pasteriliere pulls through. I will plant one in the ground and compare it with the one in container and see if the fruit improves....i hope so. My NdC was the first to break dormancy in my garage this year. Second was Rouge de Bordeaux. Looking forward to seeing them fruit this year. cheers,

Hi Alan,
yes i always add several times each season the lime in all fig containers.  ; )
I buy big bags of it and big economy box of Mg to save money.

lime as in CaCO2?
