Noire de Caromb pic

Again, I've been holding out on you guys!!!  He heehe!

I remember years ago when this fig was the one to die for!  Thanks to a generous forum friend, today I have one of these in my collection.  My tree was 7 feet tall.  Idiot me left it outside in November with new growth on.  The hard freeze hit and temps dropped down to 25 degrees.  I ran outside in December after realizing my mistake but it was too late.  My tree was dead at the top.

I move it inside my garge the rest of the winter.  When Spring it I noticed the main leader was dry and dead but the small 3 side branches were not.  I pruned it and in a few weeks it came back.  Here's a picture of one of the ripe figs I've been eating all week.  I got lucky!  She's not that hardy even though I'm in zone 8a!

Beautiful looking fig. My tree still has not set fruit but it's gained size, next year I hope.

I have 3 main crop figs starting to turn colour can't wait to try it for the first time.
I take it this is main crop?

Beautiful fig.  I'm glad you hear your tree survived after all.

Your trees are spolied unless that 25 degreee temp was on plant 1 year old.
Here Dennis they learn to be tuff and experience several hard frosts before coming in garage for a nice deep snooze.
Just not the little first season ones as there juveniles and do not know any better.

I need to add this fig To my collection ASAP .
looks very goood

Martin, it was a one year old plant and about 6 feet of that 7' growth was from last year.  It was all green.  It got cold in November fast last year.  Both Decemeber and January were very mild.  The root ball is large on this tree so I'm going to repot it in one of my whiskey barrels or 25 gallon barrel self watering pots.  I really like my SWPs.  It's hard to over water these trees.  Each pot hold 2.25 gallons of water which will last 4 days depending on outside temperatures.  I give them 1/2g of water a day and they never droop wanting water.  In full sun, I give them 1g of water a day.  NdC does have a good taste and as the tree ages, it can only get better.

Yes Dennis they grow like weeds the shape of figs and many of the leaves remnind me of the mission plant i had from monrovia.
Will taste NdC first time this season last season i could have but decided to let the tree grow instead.
In big pot and it better be excellent.

beautiful black fig

Glad it survived.  If it tastes anything like it looks it must be great.

goss

Is it just me or does it look like a Violette de Bordeaux?

No no Jon not the interior. Since your probably past 50 seasons old you may want to
see an eye doctor and don't forget your prostrate exam as well  .     ; )

I am hooked to this forum because people do care about each other.
Martin . I do not think Jon will have a better caring friend than you...great advice.
and the Fig pictures do look good. I have to let Jon to list my name on a waiting List for this Fig.

Jon, remind me next year to punch you! ;)

I know for a FACT that my Noire de Caromb is the real deal! I won't say on here where I got it, but it was not even close to being local.

I owe you one Jon!
HA!

Dennis instead punch perhaps when you meet up again at UcDavis tell him to close his eyes cause he just has to taste a certain fig.
Pick out the most spoiled rotten fig you can find and um as you know the best spoiled ones are on the ground along with ants for added taste.  ; )

Martin, Jon is a Hoot! He threw half eaten figs at me 2 years ago and got me good! So, I owe him! Hehehe

Get him  !
