Nordland & Stella Pix

  • PHD

Tried my first Nordland fig today and it was excellent despite its young age. It was also a good size. Stella as usual was very good as well.

On the plate Stella is on top, Nordland bottom right & Dark Portuguese bottom left

That Dark Portugese looks amazing, I can almost taste it through the computer. What is your take on the taste?

Javajunkie, DP is a good fig that tastes very similar to Hardy Chicago, when fully ripe its like berry jam, last year when the weather was warmer it tasted even better.

Wow! That Stella looks good.

PHD:

Just curious....  Are the size comparisons between these figs consistent.... i.e. "Nordland", and "Stella" are larger than "Dark Portuguese"?

Are the figs from "Stella" and "Nordland" troublesome...are they prone to splitting, souring, etc?  I wonder if these will do well in Zone-7b/NYC ?

Frank,
Yes Stella and Nordland are consistently much larger DP or Hardy Chicago. So far Stella has done well in our humid rainy Jersey climate. It drips thick honey from the eye which blocks insects. This is my first year for Nordland so I'm not sure how well it handles our weather but it tastes excellent. For me they are both definite keepers.

Pete/PHD:

Thanks for the answers.  Good luck.  Let us know about future performance in your climate zone.
