North east figers

So I was wondering where we should go on a fig hunt this year?

Did Istanbul 2005
did rockaway 2007
Did Philly 2009- present
Did Baltimore but still a ton left to see 2008
Did hamelton nj year round
Did iron Bound 2011
Did Monticello  2011

I am thinking we should do Patterson nj this year. A lot of middle eastern people.
What do you guys think?

Sounds good

im from that area originally.

great choice.  Not only do you have Paterson with its middle eastern area(Madison Ave exit) off of route 80.

You also have Clifton next door. Clifton was 100% Italian a decade or 3 ago. It still has a decent italian population. If you are going to Paterson, Clifton is worth 2 days alone

Clifton and Nutley both have quite a few fig trees.

Good Call on Nutley

ASTORIA, NY...(Queens County).

Huge populations of: Greeks, Italians, and Middle -Easterners.  The whole area is loaded with fig trees.

Happy hunting.

Our area have a large Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Syrian, and Lebanese community. I don't have to travel far to find a fig tree. At this point I'm only collecting the best and the most unique varieties.

When you ask the growers how is your fig tree look and taste like? they say this is the best fig in the planet. so most often I'll have to grow it myself and try it.
There are hidden treasures out there... I did find many excellent and unique varieties just in the neighborhood.

So bass is that an invite?

Dan,
I took you on a small tour last year, but if you like a real tour this time make sure to bring me that Octupus you promised me.

Ok deal

Fig hunt 2012 Bethlehem
And bass don't forget September ca you and me

If you are going to visit the Mideastern homes be sure to ask if they are the ones that brought the figs over from overseas. And ask questions about the history of the fig.

There's no place more diverse than the DMV (DC, MD,VA).

and ask if its a dark type !

Is this an open invite to travel the country side for figs? Or will this be a secret squirrel mission? Dan is there spots in Phila that are open for people to see fig trees and possibly take a few cuttings in the fall.??

Philadelphia has a ton of fig trees that Dan hasn't seen, many right near me.

Sounds like a trip to Phila will be in my future.

Philly has a lot of different neighborhoods with different ethnicities. My neighborhood is generally mixed with all different groups. Hard to pick a dominating ethnicity, maybe the Hassidik but I'm not sure what country they come from. I know of Italians, Middle Easterners, Ukraine, Russian, Indian, Asian

anywhere at the jersey shore, the place is loaded with fig trees!

What part of phila are you from BLB? I go to the Itailian market in south phila about a dozen or so times a year. Have to hit Claudio's for meats and cheese's, then stop at Esposito's (spelling?) for their home made sausage. Then I have to hit Termini's bakery for dessert. Need to find a good bread bakery, there was one right around the corner from me but the old oven colapsed and they never rebuilt it. Kind of bread I like has a hard crust on the outside and soft in the center.
