Everyone ready for the arctic blast in the northeast tonight?  18 degrees outside already.  Shed holding steady at 32.  Fingers crossed.

My attached garage is a cozy 40 but I have a heater ready if it starts to drop......LOL

My heater has been on since monday. Are you using a heater Danny?

See...its weather like that.  This is why I moved south!  Tonight's low in my hometown... -13.  Georgia on the other hand?  +13.  Much more manageable.

I live,in Louisiana and it is going to drop to 19 degrees. My green house is about 75 degrees because it was 60 degrees today and i put heater on to pre warm it. So they will stay warm even if it drops soil should retain heat and we only stay cold at night then go to the 40s to 50s. Dont have it like the northern fig growers! But yall have all the good figs.

Jesse, if it gets too cold at your place pop over to mine, only supposed to be -14F for tonight here!

Dang, the wind is really howling out there!!!

Small space heater has been going since this afternoon, Rafael.  Down to 29 degrees in there now and 16 outside.

Down to 2 tonight in pittsburgh with wind. Still not as bad as last winter yet which is a plus.

Found this article thatll make you want to go outside...

http://healthiermn.com/6-health-benefits-of-cold-weather

Let's hope you don't get below 25 in there, that's the danger zone.

Hang in there guys. A summer like 28 in Loganvile GA now ,going down to the low teens with wind chills close to 0! Stay warm Yall !

I turned on my space heater yesterday afternoon and current temp within the garage is 31 deg F.  It's supposed to get down to 6 deg F tonight and is currently 13 deg F.  That with the wind is going to be hard on the outdoor figs which range from fully protected with carpet and tarp etc to only having 1 ft of mulch around the base.  The ones with only mulch should be in a better microenvironment though so that should help.

Same here Steve. All my younger trees are wrapped up in landscaping cloth and plastic but my large in ground trees are on the mercy of Mother Nature! My only comfort is the fact that they came out unharmed last winter and it was one of the worst on record for this area. All my potted babies are in my garage, unheated but way above freezing!

50f in the fig garage right now

Tomorrow morning I'll heat it up again

Wind started to pick up here looks like we are gonna get into twenty's! Thats about as cold as I can stand. Just put heater on tonight for my young fig trees. Hope you guys and gals up north keep warm!

Right now it is 11 outside with wind chill of -13,are high for tomorrow will be 14. Checked storage of figs and they are in unheated garage sitting at 32. Having flashbacks of 2014!!

It's dropping quickly.  12F outside.  27F in shed.  Wind is picking up.  Want to add another heater but afraid to open the door of the shed.

It getting cold here too.  The figs are all in the cravo or in the basement so they should be ok.  I'm more worried about the pipes.  They are telling people to keep the water trickling all night to keep pipes from freezing.

My shed is down to 16. I guess my heater can't keep up with the cold wind. Fingers crossed.

Not too concerned about my trees in the attached garage, but I did hear we could be having temps that have a real feel of -30 to 40f tonight with the wind chill.  Yikes!  I keep hearing nails popping and wood cracking on our deck and in our house because of the extreme cold outside.  I don't envy the wildlife on nights like tonight.

Good luck to you guys in the cold.

Currently 8° outside.
48° in the attached garage. Luckily I never have to add supplemental heat in there. We're all so blessed to have a roof over our heads!

4 Degrees here and headed down.  I'm adjusting my heaters so that temps stay in the low 40s if I can.  Last year I let temps get down to 28 and some figs had trouble coming back.  Lots died to the ground (potted figs in the garage).  At 17 you risk damage to the branches and nodes.  I'd stick another heater in there even if I had to run an extension cord.  Even if I had to go to Walmart and buy a 10 or 12 gauge one.  Better a momentary drop to 12 than a long time at 17 or less.  Temps will continue to drop for at least 8 hours.
