I got an over priced brown turkey from willace orchard a couple of years ago. it was a over the phone type ordering back when i knew absolutly nothing about figs. as i have learned more about figs i am not 100% sure it is a brown turkey. the figs ripe to an almost golden color with a brownish amber flesh. it is a heavey barer and cold hardy. i have trimmed alot of cuttings from the tree this year. first time i pruned it in 3 years. i am hoping that prunning will speed up its growth habbit as it is slow. the figs are very rich and sweet. i donot have pics of the ripe figs but i do have some pics of forming figs and leaves on the tree. maybey i got somthing else. here are a few pics.

the fruit when ripe is a green/gold color. im thinking its not brown turkey. though maybe in zone 6 illinois it ripes this way. i also have problems with some fig drop on breba, and the main crop dont have time to ripen before the weather turns cold.
Not BT
any ideals as to what it may be. i know without pics of ripe fruit it will not be able to be narrowed down, but a few ideals might get me a little bit closer to what it may be with a little more research on my end. just need to know what to look at.Edit- Next fall if some one is good at id of figs and has alot of kinds i would be willing to send a few cuttings. i dont think i will have alot but have to see how it grows after prunning.
Stem too long and shape not right for BT. This is a good thing.
Any ideals on the discription Jon as to what a possibilaty is.
Welcome to the club Dave, my first tree was bought as a BT and seems to be a Celeste that drops almost the whole crop. You cannot trust resellers. I think you have one of the LSU varieties with your description being similar to Celeste but the larger fruit size and one leaf I see are not like an OG Celeste. More leaf photos might help you get a better answer.
Remove Breba from inception, because they fall out, without pollination. That way tree is forced to produce main crop sooner and so they will ripe.In Illinois,no fig tree will ripe both crop, because the Summer is not long enough.
Its one of the best figs i have ever tasted whatever it is. I admit i havent tasted many but this one is real good. i have heard it said that brown turky is not a good fig (after i bought it) and from pics i have seen of BT my figs do not look the same. I have had the tree three years the first 2 years it spent in a pot and was planted in ground last april. i am thinking maybey that led to fig drop but not sure. just wish i had an ideal what it really is. i will post more pics this growing season, get good close ups of several leaves as well as fruit.
I just got into contact with Willis orchard about my so called brown turkey. i am waiting for a reply but looking at thier selection i found one fig that looks like and almost matches my discription
Willis wrote back. keep in mind i have had this tree 2 years. Mr. McElvain,

Dave,Not a real good look at the leaves in your picture, but my Peter's Honey doesn't have lobes as deep as yours.
Like a said willis is making good on thier word. my new brown turkey shipped today and is do in by wednsday via fedex. so to this day i have not tasted brown turkey, i have heard alot of good things about it and alot of bad. it seems that what i thought was a brown turkey at first is starting more and more to look like a petes honey fig. but getting a free 5-6 foot fruiting age tree out of the deal. (not what I was trying to do but hey they offerd) so not maybe i can see what is up with the brown turkey after all. unless this ones differant too.
Dave. It's great to see that they're trying to do their best to make a customer happy, even after a couple of years at that. That's pretty darn good really. They could have come up with any number of reasons/policies as to why they couldn't send a replacement.Like you said though it remains to be seen what they are actually growing as BT at their nursery.....
well the new tree showed up just a few min ago and is about 6 foot tall to main trunks 1 inch diamater each. getting ready to pot her up.
correction its 2 seperat 5-6 foot trees
nice are thay different TREES or the same. you will be able to just plant in the ground at that hight. thay took care of you. have a great day.
From your post seems like they respected your wishes to get what you paid for.Good for you. ; )
when i first contacted them it was about an ID on the one they sent me. then the guy said we sent you the wrong kind so we are shipping out another one to you. it came in today bare root in a bag with the jelly stuff. i took the bag off to see that the two trunks were t trees that had been ziptied together. needless to say 2 years ago when i bought the first tree i paid over 100 bucks that included shipping and everything. today two years later i now have three 5-6 foot fruit age trees and havent paid a dime more. willis i would have to say has deliverd and went beyond my expectations (of thier own will) now the only problem is getting another 2 gal pot. but i wont complain. I have one potted up the other is in its root bag that i put soil in until i get a pot. i might be alright in just the bag until planting time.
