Not a Dad, but got a nice Father's Day Surprise

First, Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's!!

So, doing my rounds this morning, I noticed a fig emerging next to the Native de Argentile marker.  I love when these little surprises pop up with no warning.  It is very green and is under a big citrus tree, growing in partial shade.  Fingers crossed others planted at the same time will also pop up.

Then, I noticed some critter had stripped a bit of the skin, revealing about an inch of white on a really big swollen Verte.  It came off easy in my hand.  I love them most when they are yellow and wrinkled, but I wasn't waiting for whatever tested it to come back and finish the job.  I cut off the tainted portion, and discovered a tasty gem inside.  Very sweet and jammy!

There is one more swollen black VdB waiting for me.  But it didn't come off easy, so I'm going to put one of those green nylon wedding bags over it, and cross my fingers!

Happy Fathers Day Everyone. Thanks for recognizing us Suzi. I love the Strawberry Verte, its a good size fig. I have a lot of small trees most with fruit, so its going to be a great year to chime in with others for once...LOL

I wish my dad was still around.  I'd cook him a great dinner!  But the Verte rocks for sure!  Aggressive, prolific grower with big, tasty figs.  What's not to like, unless you are Martin who is afraid of the light side...  Does he even know heaven is light?

JD is a dad, so I'm cooking him grilled rib eye smothered in sauteed mushrooms, accompanied by baked yams, green salad, and green beans with bacon.  Wine will be Tempranillo.
