O.T. - Games of Your Youth

In another thread, Smaritza got me to thinking about the [board] games of my youth as compared to some of the very good [board] games of today. In addition to new agel board games like Qwirkle and Blockus, my wife and I play the games of our youth like pick up sticks, hop scotch, ping pong, marbles, tether ball, jacks, monopoly, pool (8-ball), scrabble, and life with our children. Quite a bit during the summer; less so during the school year due to homework all the extracurriculars. What were some of your favorite [board] games growing up? When was the last time you played?

risk, and chess. used to play them for hours. and not exactly a board game, but d&d. i still have my dragon dice. lol

stratego for a heads up game

risk or monopoly for multiplayer

By far and away my brothers and I wasted away the most time with Risk.  When my brothers and I get together today we still usually pull out the Risk board, but now our sons are playing with us.  Addicting game.  I also loved playing tabletop shuffleboard (the one with the rubber bands at the top bank of the board), trying to sneak that one in because it has board in it's name!

Of course my sister and I played jacks. Outside we played skellsies, tag, ringalevio. I was known to jump rope from sun up to sunset. In the winter time, there was monopoly,scrabble and a whole host of others. Now with my daughter and husband we play trouble and othello.

Settlers of Catan is by far the best board game introduced in decades. Beats the board games of childhood - risk, chess and monopoly by a long shot.

When the weather was nice we were never in the house.  We played stick ball in the street, hop scotch, may I?, red light, green light and hide n seek. In winter we played parcheesi, monopoly, cards and scrabble.  I still play scrabble.  Now the kids all play games on their phones.  We had much more fun than the kids today.

A few decades ago we played:

Board Games;
Mouse Trap, Operation, Rack-O, Uno, Monopoly, Boggles, Mille Borne and Scrabble. I haven't played any board games in years but the last one I did play was Monopoly.

Other games;
Red Rover, Cigarette game- I can't really remember how it went. Tag, Dodge Ball, Badminton, Crab Soccer.

I also played a lot of the games listed here and will add some more. How about Sorry, Rook, Rumoli with the tiles.
On occasion I played spin the bottle and my favourite was kissing tag.

My favourite poem to say to see who would be it for hide and seek was this one:

Ink ink a bottle of ink
The cork fell off and you stink
not because your dirty
not because your clean
just because you kissed a girl
behind a magazine.

Oh! i can't forget about Probe, and also the string designs that you could wrap on your fingers and exchange to your partners fingers.(sorry, don't know the name).

ok, i must be the only d&d geek in this forum.. lol
