What's the best thing to do right now I just received a LSU Purple and a Cyleste Oct 1 15, I,m in z-6 and it's gonna get cold in a couple months so do I need to go ahead and plant them in the ground now or wait till spring. They are potted trees with leaves growing as we speak, Whatever I do I plan to protect them from freezing to the ground if at all possible . Need advise ASAP. Newbie fig landlord wanna be.  Thanks Dennis

Do you have a place to safely store them for the winter?, temps below 45 degrees but above 25 degrees? 
How big / how old are the trees?  If you do plant them in the ground, plant them deeper than the current rootball to get the roots below the frost line, and insulate the top well.  Lots of suggestions for how to do this on the forum.  A young tree is more likely to be cold-injured.

Wait until Spring, I really don't think they could get established in the ground before cold weather sets in. Leave them outside until your first Frost. They will lose their leaves and then put in a garage or some type bldg. This is what I would do if roles were reversed.... Good Luck! : )

You're in Zone6. I would consider to keep them in the pots and bury the pots at Spring time.
You could pot up or even take a bigger pot, set it in the garage,basement,barn  and bury both smaller pots together in that big pot for just a better winter protection.
Fig trees are said to be cold hardy till Zone7 ... And they can already have bad times in Zone7.
Now if you've got duplicate trees, go ahead and challenge the duplicates. If you only have got those two ... I would consider protecting them in a shelter.
