I have a former student who is spending this year in Tel Aviv. She reports that she has 90 seconds to seek shelter from the time the sirens go to red alert to the time she can hear the explosions. She has gotten used to the explosions such that she can now tell the sound of the Patriot missiles exploding and the the sound of the few Hesbollah rockets striking home.

Finding shelter for her usually means crouching in her apartment's hallway. 

Truth to tell, I did not teach my students, who I usually am very close to, to find them in such harm's way, brave as this young lady is.
