Each year at our family reunion we hold an auction to cover costs. That way those with plenty of money blow it, those without come to the reunion free.
This year I took a big ceramic rooster (very colorful) and some other white elephants that I knew would amuse the crowd, plus six figs. I intended to give four of the figs to relatives before the auction, and I did. What I did not count on was forgetting the white elephants at our host's home and arriving at the reunion with only figs.
I had given away all the larger trees (all this year's cuttings, but most quite large), and had only two for the sale, the two smallest of the lot. I was a bit surprised when one sold for $45 and the other, still in a 32 oz cup, went for $21.
Figs do well down home, so I expect these to prosper.
