On a prior post I to declared my intention to coax some stubborn figo preto into ripeness. The plants are ~1 year old and loaded with unripe figs. On both plants I made sure to oil certain figs while keeping others un-oiled to serve as a control. The non oiled figs were approximately the same age as the oiled figs. On Monday night of last week I applied the olive oil, sparingly over the eye and lower 1/3 of the figs. On Wednesday morning I noticed that all but one of my oiled figs and zero of my control figs had begun to swell and take on color. By Saturday those same figs were looking very large. I tasted one today and it was pretty darn good. I'm a novice taster but the texture was that of jam and I'm pretty sure I detected strawberry. Not saying this is definitive but I'm certainly encouraged.

It seems that the BM and Panachee I oiled tasted better when there was heat, as the colder temps roll in the syrup, sweetness and flavour have gone down, BM makes a really delicious jam though despite this fact. Thanks for sharing.
I think I'm going to try this on some of mine. Thanks for sharing.
