OK, So...any one want to donate cuttings so I can sart my collection?

I literally do not even have a single fig tree  Tragic, I know.  I am trying to remedy that situation now.  I have room for 25-50 fig trees and what better place than here to get started. I would be happy to pay for shipping if anyone would like to help get me started.  I do not need the most rare, just good tasting figs.  I would just ask that the variety was named.  Getting cuttings from your friends and neighbors IS a good way to start your trees but here in NJ the people who have trees planted in the yard are few and far between.  Of those, most do not know the name, or have the wrong name, or are...Brown Turkey!  No offense to you if that is your favorite, but I can get that at the Home Depot.  Please email me and we'll set something up.  I do propagate some perennials and woody ornamentals, so if a trade sweetens the deal, we could make that work.

You are just in time!  Jon from Encanto Farms is about to start up his cutting sale anytime now!  He was estimating starting to take requests today, just waiting for the post.  He's got great varieties for a good price and a great cause.

lots of fig people in NJ.  Welcome to the forum.

So you grow mostly perennials. And it sounds like you have a lot of land if you have room for so many figs. What part of Jersey are you in? Do you grow any edibles? You won't find many people telling you Brown turkey is your favorite, however, there are some strains that are pretty good. Also, are you planning on planting in ground only or will you be growing in pots?

Welcome from me too!  I have nothing left to trade this year, and although I love hydrangeas, our soil is mainly decomposed granite!  Drains well, highly alkaline (great for figs), but not so good for hydrangeas.  They are beautiful!

Good luck with your new hobby!

Go NINERS!

hakonechloa-  what varieties do you have ?
mature plants to trade ?

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome AD good luck in your adventure with figs.

Hakonechloa aureo marginata, I have full size plants.  I would trade those, and this time of year I would ship USPS bare root.  I have a three acre property but a 1/3 acre of it is a vegetable garden.  I do have strawberries, and melons.  I plan on adding thornless blackberries, blueberries, red raspberries, and kiwi, 1 peach tree, 1 cherry, 1 plum, 1 pear, 1 nectarine, and 1 apricot this year. Along with figs of course!!!

Where in NJ are you, I'm in Staten Island.

I have some fig varieties good for inground use in this area,
also have some mature/fruiting container grown blueberries I can trade,
Chippewa, Elliot, Duke, Reka, and some southern highbush Sweetcrisp and Bluecrisp,
which will be the best tasting blueberry you probably ever had,
they do need a little protection in the winter.
Have a mature fruiting peach tree in a container, Red Haven I believe, could trade that as well.

HungryJack, I have lots of blueberry bushes on my property.  There are so many good ones, but I haven't heard of Reka, SweetCrisp or Blue Crisp.  Where do you find those varieties?  I'll have to look into those as I can't pass up something described as the best I ever had!

hungryjack  What would you like to trade for 2 Blueberries, the peach tree, and some figs.  I'm in Hunterdon County, not too far from Staten Island.  I would be planting in the ground.  I plan on wrapping the figs so if I have to wrap the blueberries, no big deal.

Welcome to the forum.  What Epimedium do you have?

Epimedium rubrum, just a few.

Hello ADelmanto,
Welcome to the forum community! I dont have any "named" varieties to share, only offering a hearty welcome. Good Luck.

Reka is originally from New Zealand,
its a good early BB highly productive.

The SweetCrisp and BlueCrisp will probably be the best tasting BB
you've had,  very crisp crunchy in texture and sweet in flavor,
not the mushy tart BB most are used too.

SC amd BC are Southern High Bush BB,
so they need a little protection in the colder climates,
although there are reports of them surving in Michigan unprotected at a test station.
Sweet Crisp is the better of the two IMO, but both are worth growing.
Reka  you can buy from the BB nurseries in southern NJ, many have this variety.

SweetCrisp BB  should be a fig, ;-)
because there have been lots of issues with nurseries selling other
varieties as SweetCrisp.  It is a patented plant, so only a few nurseries
can propogate it.  Most are charging $12-15 for a one year old plant if available.

If you want this variety, I would contact Connie at Horner Nursery in GA,
google them.  She can probably supply you with BlueCrisp as well.
You might want a Farthing or two, helps increase the yield on the SweetCrisp.
She is also more reasonably priced than most places and has the real deal.
Also a nice person to deal with.

Will send you a PM

You would only have to wrap the Sweetcrisp or Bluecrisp,
other BB are cold hardy.
