This last Saturday I drove down to One Green World for the harvest festival they put on every year. The tasting room was filled with fruit from all 4 corners of the globe to sample. Jujube's from the Ukraine, Bush cherries from S.Korea and PawPaw gelato. I bought some grape vines , some pears and yes , I bought fig trees .;-) A black Spanish and an Atreano.
I spoke with one of their master gardeners , with the hopes he could shed some light on the Atreano fig trees they have for sale. From what I was told, the owner of Northwoods nursery (OGW) Jim Gilbert bought several varieties of figs from a New York nursery back in 1999. He trialed them and only Atreano was able to ripen a good crop here in the NorthWest . They have 10 other varieties at the moment that are under trial .
Across the street at Northwoods , They have 4 rows of fig trees about 200 ft. long . The photos don't do it justice. I would have gotten closer but there was a big o'le Rottweiler on the other side of the fence .
