One more shot to get it correct

I had place his on here earlier but could not get the photos to take. Now I am using photobucket like I should have before.

Hi all,

Early this morning I went out to look over my fig trees sitting in tubs on my driveway. We had a couple days of hard rain but knowing that I had no figs being close to getting ripe I had no concerns that anything bad happened.

I have around 22 trees at all different stages of growth and as I looked around I saw a fig lying on the ground under one of my smaller trees. It was soft and looked ripe but the color was not as dark as I thought it should be.

I turned the bucket around to get a look at the name of the fig and it turned out to be one Bass had given me when in early spring I visited his home.

When I took it to my home it did not seem to be rooted all that well yet and only had two small leaves on it.

I waited two weeks and moved it up to the pot it is now in as seem in the photos below. This thing took off and now already is producing ripe figs with a really good taste. I got my camera to give you a look see how my tree

is developing. After I took the photos I ate two more of them and gave one to wifey. I hope it maintains its good flavor when it becomes more mature in a year or two.

I just want to say thanks Bass for what I believe is going to be an outstanding fig. Not only for its taste but me being in zone 5 it seemed like it beat all my other trees producing ripe main crop figs.

By the way Bass calls this Bethlehem dark fig

Thanks for our interest.

Lou

It does look delicious. It turns dark purple, I called it Black Bethlehem after the city it was grown in. Most likely it came from Greece. This was rooted and fruited in the same season... I'm sure it will be even sweeter.

Lou im glad you posted your Black Bethlehem and your in zone 5.

I have Black Bethlehem in container as well and im in zone 5 also.
Mine came from same source and small in late April of 2010.
So i think mine is one growing season older if i read correct ?

I have several figs just started to swell and turn today and will start a thread when they ripen so as not to impose here.

Thanks for showing your pictures Lou.

Another one for the wish list. Ripe already in Z5.
Thanks for posting.

Glad to learn more about that fig, and how quickly it ripens in your zone.  Think that will go on my list also!
