One Stubborn Cutting

I had two cutting of Texas Everbearing fig that were sent to me the beginning of September.  One of the cutting rooted within a week, had roots shooting through the holes in the bottom of the clear cup in another week and went right into active growth mode when placed into a one gallon pot.  The plant is now almost two feet tall.

The second cutting took a month to develop any sign of life.  It finally developed two small shoot tips but no roots.   I moved it too early to the clear cup fearing that it would mold in the wet newsprint.   It just sat there.  No growth and no root development.  I left it in the corner, checking the moister level but ignoring it.  Just checked a few days ago and the shoots are starting to swell and roots are visible on the bottom.  There were several times I almost gave up on this little plant.  Hope the next stage is uneventful.  Three full months to root!  I took the bag off for the picture.

If it's worth having it's worth waiting for.   :)  Congratulations!

No 2 cuttings are ever the same. Even if they are taken from the same tree, at the same time, and treated the same, they do not all behave the same. Welcome to the "Fun" part of figs.

I dont give up on cuttings until they look like jerkey all shrivled up. I had a number of deset kind cuttings i did back in april under a mist system in my small greenhouse.all of them rooted but 2 of them had one single root that cam out and both of these roots broke off. i left them in the misting system for four months the tops of the cuttings died back leaving not much of a cutting at all. then suddenly right below where the tops were dieing a termanl bu shot out from each one of them. now each is in my bathroom under grow lights until spring, and each is about a foot tall. these two cuttings i didnt think would make it but i have babied them for almost nine months now and they both have great roots now. in spring i will pot them in a gal pot and bury all of the origanil cutting in hopes it will develope more of a root system and start sending out more branches. beings i already have three in the ground i am not worried about keeping them so much as i just didnt want the little guys to die if they had a chance. but I got lucky, and didnt give up.
