>> Online fig book: "The fig: its history, culture, and curing"

I found this book published in 1901, you can either download it or read online:

"The fig: its history, culture, and curing, with a descriptive catalogue of the known varieties of figs
 (1901)"

To read online, just click on "Read Online" on the left side after you click on the link above. You can zoom in or out with + or - in your right bottom corner. You can also use a slider at the very bottom to fly through the pages quickly.

I spent about 30 min going through pages and pages, very interesting. The author covers propagation starting from a cutting to fig varieties from different countries like Spain, Portugal, France, Greece and others. There is a nice chapter dedicated to California.
Many varieties we know of today also mentioned, some were new to me. There is even a section of how to cut a cutting, I am attaching it over here.

Enjoy!

Thank you very much for this, I had been looking to look through this book but hadn't found it yet, excellent find.

Sure! It seems the library contains quite a few older edition books on different topics.

As Herman mentioned on GW forum Gustav Eisen most respected in his eyes and i understand what he means in that thread.
Have had that PDF file for 3 and 1/2 years now on hardrive.

Has he written any other fig books?

Green here is a short bio  - http://researcharchive.calacademy.org/research/library/special/bios/Eisen.pdf
He did book on Raisins around 1897.

Wow! What a bright man, he was involved in so many different things.
His love of California changed its landscape forever.
