opportunity to buy Col De Dame Gris(e)?

So I'm in Texas and I see on my local craigslist that someone is selling potted cuttings of Col De Dame Gris(e) in 3 gallon pots.

Is this worth the time or should I be looking for actual seedlings?  Can these be grown indoors like a regular houseplant or do they need to be outside/greenhoused?

This thing looks pretty tiny....i don't imagine it would produce fruit any time soon.

If you want a unique great tasting fig, then it is worth it. And $25 for a Col de Dame is not a bad price.

Propagating fig from cuttings is the normal method for starting new trees. You are basically cloning the original tree. While seeds (or Seedlings) will not produce a tree that is true to the parent. And the seeds would never be pollinated growing in Texas anyway, as we do not have the proper insect. In general, this is not an issues as the figs we grow here are "common" figs and do not require pollinate to give fruit.

You will want to keep any fruiting fig outside. This late in the year you would not get fruit from this particular tree this summer. But you should have figs next summer. Fig trees can grow very fast.

If I lived closer, I would probably buy one. After checking with the seller for details of course. They are probably a member of one of the forums too.

That tree may look small but it also looks perfectly healthy. A larger tree will cost you a lot more money.

Looks right to variety too.

A great addition to any collection...

So it seems like the advice is to plant this outside, eh?

How much space would I need to devote to this?  is this something that becomes a monster?  Do yall trim them to keep them a nice size or do they just get huge?

Up pot to 5-7 gallon pot and it will take off.

So I don't need to plant it in the ground for a while then? How long could I keep it potted? Will it fruit in a pot?

Ask to see pictures of the fruit.  My 4 year old 'CdDG' just produced its first fruit and earned a "not" at the end of its name.  If the fruit looks real let me know if you're willing to ship me one!  :)

I found the listing.  Be wary.  Check out the first image dated 2016 vs this post dated 2015

I can't find any images that match the fruit image, though.

here's the posting.  https://austin.craigslist.org/grd/d/col-de-dame-grise-fig-in-3/6287688533.html

So is the concern that this is not a real fig as advertised?  Maybe she just used a stock photo as an example?

Here's what this craigslister is telling me:

The plants are small, but are growing well.  This fig is not commonly available, I've seen smaller plants in smaller pots of this variety selling for $35 plus shipping cost online.  These have been in the 3-gallon pots for about 3 weeks, so they need to stay in the pots until mid Spring of next year, allow them to reach 2-3 feet before planting in the ground.

This fig does not need a pollinator.  Most figs are cold hardy in this area, I would place the plant against a south-facing wall if you are keeping it outdoors for the winter.  It will go dormant, but start growing quicker in the Spring on a south-facing wall.  To keep it growing during the winter, you would need to grow it in a greenhouse or indoors in a south-facing window with plenty of sunlight, or grow under grow lights.  You might get some figs next year if you take good care of it with water, sunlight, and fertilizer.

Bob,
PM me in fall about CdD Gris.
I gave my Mavra Sika everything I could think of and finally after 5 seasons of fruit that just wasn't very impressive I burned the tree.
As it was the most expensive tree I ever bought (Trees of Joy) I really wanted it to work out, but . . .
