orange peels for ants

The clerk at Home Depot told me that orange peels kills ants.  I thought it would attract ants, but I guess it works for some people.  I haven't tried it because I don't want more ants.  Anyone try this?

I have heard that ants don't like citrus oils and mint. I have not tried citrus but I have used mint oil with good results. And if you want to kill the colony, place freshly ground coffee on the hill. The ants will carry it into their nest where the queen will eat it and die. They eventually reorganize and come back elsewhere, but it got rid of them near my figs.

My grandpa used orange peel to control fire ants in his grove (central Fl). It worked better than the gasoline (yikes) that he used prior to finding out about orange peel. If I remember right, the peels from a batch of juice were turned to a pulp in a blender adding enough water to make a thick liquid. A fire ant hill would be opened with a shovel and the slurry was poured in.

Hope that helps...

Hmm, if they don't like mint, I wonder if planting some mint in the pot would deter them.

Might try the orange peel slushy too

Yes, have used mint on many occasions and it works!

Just one, may be two mint stalks with a few roots, stuck in the pot,...  let it grow and ants will definitely vanish. Trim the mint regularly as they may go wild !! Also it brings a nice shade to the topsoil and keeps moisture where it should be

I would think twice about putting mint in with something.  Doesn't it invade everything.

Only thing is that in the desert, I can't even get it to grow.   Elsewhere, it won't die.

I may try the orange peel trick then, but my ants have now disappeared anyways.   I threw some DE on them.
