Ordered from Trees of Antiquity

Just ordered my first trees.  Should ship Jan 2015.
Already looking at recipes.

Black Mission
Violette de Bordeaux
Kadota

Recipes you say?  Heh, nothing like optimism.  But you chose very well.... VdB is - awesome IMO and I also like Kadota.  Black mission is tasty, but not very productive in my experience down here in FLA

Welcome to the forum, by the way...

Welcome, and good luck with your trees!  Great choices.

Hello, welcome. :)

Thanks for the welcome James.
I am north of Rayne,LA…9B zone

I am hoping for a long fruiting season here.
I grew up with common figs here but wanting more.

KV

KV, welcome and good luck.  Do you already grow other fig varieties?

Thanks everyone for the welcome.  Look forward to sharing.

LA has some good figs!! You should just drive around looking in backyards!! Welcome aboard.

Harvey,

i currently do not have any trees.  As a child I took them for granted and did not appreciate what I had at the time.  I am hoping to restore some of my childhood.

Trees of antiquity had rest reviews.  Hope all goes well.

Gloria,

We do have lots of figs here.  But, my grandmother had this tree when I was a child that had really dark figs that trumped all the neighbors trees which were probably celeste or similar types of trees.  They had the taste of dark caramelized sweetness not just sweet.  That is my search.

KV

what happened to that tree?

Welcome,

VdB is a great purple fig. It's red on the inside and many say it has a berry flavor
Pair that with a Battaglia, which is green outside and red inside. Many say it has a strawberry flavor.

With those two you have spanned the fig deliciousness. All you need to do is fill in the middle with about 200 more varities and you will be ok.

Gloria,

Grandparents passed and property was sold.  Sadly the tree was cut down.

At times, we all can have that restoration hope. Welcome aboard!

Welcome

Welcome to both of you!  We have several members in LA who are very kind and generous people.  kvenable, maybe you could ask relatives if anyone took cuttings of that tree to grow.

rcantor,
Went that route already.  The best I can do is try to find that type of tree.
I messaged Dan with Danscajunfigs but did not get an answer.  He described a
Louisiana Black Mission fig which seemed to be close to what I remember.
Just ordered the above mentioned to get started.
Thanks for the welcome
