Ordering From UC Davis

Would someone please give me step by step directions for ordering from UC Davis?

What exactly does the whole thing entail?

Is it true that any cuttings from them can potentially have the virus?

I appreciate your time, I've been on their site and I just can't figure it out!

Short version:

Go to this page:     http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/tax_site_acc.pl?DAV%20Ficus%20carica

Click on the one you want, a new page will appear, look under availability, if availabile click request this germplasm, a new page will appear which is a shopping cart, your selection will be entered in the cart, back up your browser two pages and select another. When you have selected all you want click on complete at the shopping cart, a new page will appear. Fill out the form and submitt.

Yes it's true the cuttings from UCD and everywhere else have probably been exposed to FMV and may or may not show the virus.

Tami, you will always have the chance of FMV. It comes with the hobby. The cuttings I got from UCD are leafing out and so far so good. If they show the virus I don't think it will be severe. I got cuttings from some trades that have been so disfigured that you can't even tell it's a fig leaf. I had two trees that had a mild case of FMV but after being planted in ground it disappeared. It seems that a happy tree turns into a healthy tree. Don't let the chance of a virus stop you from ordering. FMV is everywhere and at present we all just put up with it.

It's not going to stop me I just want to make sure I have things right in my mind :)

On the GRIN site I got to the part to "describe my research". Does layman research qualify? Could anyone please tell me what qualifies as research?
Thank you, Soni

HAHAHA That got me too. I put viability and fruit production on the Gulf Coast. Watch them call me out on it!

How does this sound for research?  "To determine what varieties do well in my micro climate" ?  Someone told me not to fret about it because they need to send cuttings and justify that fig collection to keep their employess on the playroll ;-)

Those explanations are more than sufficient.  I've never heard of anyone challenged for any reason they've given.  This NCGR staff is great to work with.

Harvey, you showed admirable restraint.  I'm proud of you  :)
