OT: another round of "snow" in Nc

so.. there is this rumor we are getting snow down here supposedly yesterday, and now today. school let out 1 hr early for my kids. some school was let our earlier. then today, it's closed for my kids. and here is the kicker.

i don't see any snow!

it's 5th day they have done this in last month or so. i understand that possible problem if there was snow coming down. i understand sort of problem we used to run into... i guess safety first.

Same here.  My wife grew up in WI, so she gets irritated when everyone freaks out over a couple inches of snow.  But we're supposed to get the 'big one' today.  6-12"

Pete, better hope you do get the snow part of this storm. At the present time I am in the freezing rain area and its already bad.
Streets are skating rinks and the trees are are falling on power lines. Not pretty.

Pete,
We had the opposite problem night before last. Forecast called for a few flurries but no accumulation. I woke up to three inches on the ground and a total of around five inches by yesterday afternoon. It is snowing again now. Maybe your kids will at least get enough to do some sledding

funny thing is, we used to get some snow at least once a yr. good enough for sledding. every yr, we said it's not going to snow. then one yr, we decided to get sleds for the boys. since then we haven't had enough snow to sled on them. lol

Sounds like what happened when I planted 9 fig trees in the ground last spring....we get record lows this winter.  Most are pretty dead already.

Sorry Pete as we pushed that stuff south east and now its going north east up the coast.
13 below zero last night here.
Need some cold to go with it ?

It's been coming down hard the past 3 hours in Charlotte.  Everything here is covered.  There's at least 6 inches now.  Ice comes tomorrow.  Glad I stayed in today.

We are now getting pelted with ice... no freezing rain yet but sounds like a sand storm when the wind picks up... learning where all the drafts are in my house.. Hope your doing okay Dennis...
I think the will cancel school tomorrow, we have hot chocolate and cookie dough so we are all set unless we loose power...

no problem martin :) thanks for the snow!

Well here in Denver the kids go to school even if there is a blizzard. First, they say, is because some kids would not get to eat breakfast or lunch unless they were in school. Second, they say, is that if they closed school for every blizzard then we'd end up making those days up in June.

The difference is that we are used to it. The highway department is set up with many snow plows and magnesium trucks to prevent icing on the roads. Also, most everyone here owns a 4x4 or an AWD. You can still get a couple of grand for a Subaru with over 200,000 miles on it here.

Thanks Martin, Keep the white stuff South. We've had enough of it and the cold.
Looks like next week it might get up to 50.  Heat wave!!!

Kubota,
We have gotten around 8 inches of snow the last couple of days,
But the weather man said that this time next week we will be in the mid 60's. I am starting to think about spring more and more. Here is hoping you get some warm weather and sunshine.

Dieseler, it is a dusting, I like an occasional snow but not ice like Atlanta is getting right now.

Pete, it looks pretty flat where you are. Are you going to be able to find a hill for kids to sled down?

That snow looks great. I wish w could get some of that.

after 5" or so snow yesterday, we had freezing rain all night long. now the streets are covered with ice. and predicting more snow today. kids have missed 6 days of school so far due to snow.. and another week due new building being built for the school. this throws all our summer vacation into trash can. on the positive side, the fig trees will be happy since i'll be here to water them as needed :)

Nothing like Martin in Chicago, but hey, this is Central Georgia. Parts of North Georgia did get a foot of snow last night.

my younger son looked outside and said "dad, look at the trees". he hasn't seen trees covered with ice before. lol

We also got 12"+ overnight and it has still been snowing on and off today.
Martin- my parents live in the north suburbs of chicago and they told me so far they have sent me pictures that look similar to yours

We have over 6" and it's still coming.

The difference in the north once you get snow it stays around... we are looking at 70's next week...

We (NJ) are now about less than half way being dumped with (~1') of snow.
Later comes the sleet/rain and then more snow...

@ztfree1128 I too am in Baltimore... we've sure been walloped with snow.

At least someone at my house enjoys it!!!^^^

Well I am not sure the actual inches But I took a major hit Right in my Japanese Maple garden The base of that tree is 2.5-3 foot diameter and very tall just  took out several expensive trees. down-tree.jpg
