OT: Anyone grow Sea Buckthorn?

  • jtp

Also known as Seaberries (Hippophae rhamnoides). I am looking for cuttings from both male and female plants. PM me if you can help. Trade or Pay. Send me your terms. Thank you.

You're gonna want root cuttings as they will be easier to propagate. I got some thornless cuttings from a guy a couple years ago and tried to root them like figs. no way man. He told me that he tried and had no luck either. Then he tries root cuttings and it worked like a charm. I'm still hoping to get more from him. Good luck on your quest.

It's hard to find any nurseries that sells SB around here .
The ones that do only have seedlings and can't tell you if they are male or female .
I think I may have found a source in my area for rooted suckers finally after a year of searching .
Not a very popular plant around here yet .

Raintree sells them, male and a couple females(plants). They are a someday plant for me. I have always wanted them, but need a bigger yard.

I tried these things back in 06 I think and it was horrible. I still want to try growing them but it won't be a casual attempt this time. Of the ones I did plant they died within that year.

I've had a male and female from Raintree in-ground for a couple years. This winter was unusually cold here in 7b and I do not know if they will recover since I provided no protection. They haven't grown much at all above ground in that time.

if you dont have much space i wouldn’t grow them. sea berries taste bad and make nasty juice. good luck and have fun

I bought it on sale end of season at a nursery, it was $. At home, I saw "male"... oh, after research I realized I had an incomplete purchase and they did not have the lady seaberry... on my online hunt I locate Indiana Berry. Very affordable. got my Lady and it is healthy and beautiful.  It is leafing out with power. Too small for cuttings, but you should look into Indiana Berry. I got excited about their site, also got Imperial Currant and Brandwine Raspberrries (purple)  it was my treat.

I love Indiana Berry. Every purchase from them has been very nice sized and robust.

I can't give them the room they need so I buy the powder and put it in my smoothies. Great to settle your stomach.
