I am still awaiting my fig crop, with young trees and coolish summer so far. However, it is prime-time for our Gravenstein apples and Bartlett pears. Gravenstein's are one of the earliest apples, and amazing, ripe from the tree. Crisp, sweet/tart, and juicy. I dry them, can apple pie filling, juice them, eat them fresh, and hope to try making some hard cider. Pears are dried, canned and juiced. Just thought I'd share some photos, while waiting for my figs. Oh, and the Pinot grapes are turning black, several weeks from harvest. Enjoy.      

That all looks great!  Harvest is done here.  I even had to buy a special apple peeler, corer, slicer thing there were so many, and my freezer is full of apple pie filling.  Next year, I'll be smarter!  I'll ferment the cores and peels for cider.

Do you grow grapes to make your own wine, to sell to other winemakers or both? Maybe I should invite myself over next time I'm in the area wine tasting and you can feed me figs and whatever else is ripening. Makes my own orchard and five vine vineyard look a mess, which it is, actually. At least you give me something to shoot for.

I just picked a bunch of Bartlett pears yesterday.  I love pear season.

BTW, did you have success getting any CdDN cuttings to root for you?

Beautiful pics, Gary.  I have a d'anjou pear tree that produces hundreds of pears each year.  I've made wine out of them in the past.  A couple pies and treats too.  They can be gritty, and I end up trashing 80% of the fruit each year just because there's so many.  The deer help with the cleanup too.  I should look into drying them this year.  End of September is when they're ready for picking in my zone.

Hoosier, yes, the wine is very decent.
Neil, the grapes are purchased by VML Winery, and bottled with our Ivywood vineyard designation. Mostly Pinot, but also some Chardonnay. If you visit the area, I will be disappointed if you don't visit.
Wayne, I agree about Granny Smith, and I like that they are late in the season here.
Frank, dried pears are a real treat, I think you'll like them. They are my favorite, next to the Persimmons.
Greenfin, funny you asked. My first post here was I think to give away CdD Noir cuttings, that I had gotten at a scion exchange. I kept 3 or 4 that I thought was plenty. Rookie error... mine all failed, so CdD Noir is still on my wish list. I hope yours made it. Cheers!
