OT: Baseball is finally here!

The thing I miss most about living back home in the states is summer afternoons and nights watching BASEBALL! Anyone else excited for the new season? Any WS predictions?

Lets go Giants!

Lifetime Cardinals fan here!  I lived in europe for a year and baseball was one of the things I missed so I know what you mean.  However, I'm a more casual fan now that I no longer live in midwest.  The Nationals have a nice stadium though and we try to attend a couple times each season.  Baseball is the only professional sport I follow and even then I sometimes get disgusted with the economics of major league ball.  I think it's hard to expect anyone to be a passionate fan though if they have never played themselves.  If you have played before then the pace of the game seems more natural and not slow or boring as some feel it is.

You can try to support your fig habit by signing up for ESPN's free Streak for Cash.  JD and I play it daily.  Each month the person with the highest winning streak (winning picks) can win thousands of bucks.  My longest streak is 7, and the winning streak this month is 27.  It's still fun.  I lost my college basketball pick last night, and I picked a baseball team to win today.  Not saying who....... but baseball is a dicey one to pick!  Go here and scroll down to Streak for Cash.

Count me in! Unfortunately Ive lived in Houston all my life so I've got to support my Astros:( One day they will give is something to be excited about! Until then, I have 3 boys all in baseball and our whole family is ate up with it! My oldest son is 12 and is really coming into his own now. My 4 year old is in coach pitch and my 3 year old in Tball. Life is good;)

I kinda wish baseball would start a week or so early to give the chance to play in some snow. As far as world series predicitions, detroit and pittsburgh would be my guess.

i follow it occasionally... when mets are doing well.. i think last game i saw from start to finish was subway game back in 2000.. much prefer hockey, but i haven't watched in awhile. not much time to sit front of tv now days.

Yeah, my son must be very happy about that!
He has some kind of a minor-bb-team under his care.

As for me, apart that Spring is about to be here; I do not really care.
I do follow the end though - the World Series...

hey!  My pick won!

Your pick won! MLB: Detroit Tigers

Your current streak is now W1.

I need a lot more streak wins to win the cash, but I LOVE this ESPN sports thing.  Free to join.  Why not?

It's only one day into the season and the Mets are already killing me.

Travis, Wow, that's a reach in picking Pittsburgh.
I love the Buccos! Even though they had 20 losing years in a row until last year.
It was nice to see them win the home opener. A local guy (Neil Walker) from Pittsburgh had a walk off HR in the 10th.

Art I think it would be a neat matchup. two used to be steel towns

Yeah, I'd love it. The Pirates have the 3rd lowest payroll in baseball.

Diehard phillies phan here! Won their first game, hopefully a lot more to follow. Go phills!

Chad, every time the phillies come to pittsburgh, they bring the rudest fans with them.

I cheer for the Angels.  But, I used to be a Dodgers Fan.  Marriage, move, it all changes.  NOW I go for the MONEY!  I will place a bet on any team I think might win.  It's hard to get outside your loyalty, but your team might just let you down.  Budk up!  Play to win!

I no longer watch the Chicago Cubs here it's a waste of time.

Martin, JD is from Chicago... Park Ridge, and he agrees with you!  They've been bad for 100 years he says.  Something about the curse of a goat?

Me too, I grew up with Dodger, Yankee and Met fans. STL had many great years

KK, when I was growing up in Iowa we could easily get the games on the AM radio.  Stan Musial was my Dad's favorite player and his enthusiasm for the team rubbed off on me.  As all baseball fans know, team loyalties tend to be passed down through the generations.

I grew up in North Jersey, we were the only Cardinal fans for miles :)
My Dad brainwashed me early on. My parents hated the Yankees.

I worked many years in New York City. Of course 99% of the people in the office were Met/Yankee fans.

It was 1985, STL and the Mets were in a race for the division title. The bet was if STL won they would get a cheese cake covered in strawberries and if the Mets won I would bring in a cheese cake covered in blueberries. The strawberries were extra SWEET that year.

Great story, KK - even if it does bring back not so good memories of the world series that year!

Is anyone still following baseball or is everyones teams out of the playoffs? I'm still holding out hope for Pittsburgh and Detroit.

Go Mets!

I'm with you bro. If Pittsburgh wins tonight and Milwaukee loses. We will clinch a Wild Card spot.
