OT - can't get a break..........

Well here it is - another 2 months passed since my last post - sigh!!  And I still feel like the energizer bunny - I still keep going and going and going.............

Since then, Glenn was in the hospital with pneumonia in both lungs - worst case he has had, had bleeding life support, made it through and I had a great trip to NY.  Came back, a week later Luce dislocated her other hip - UHG!!  A few weeks later I lost my job and here I am.

Getting ready for the garden this year, planted onion transplants - hope they survive the snow we got today!  The fig tree is looking real nice and needs to be pruned.  I don't think my cuttings have survived, I'll check them this week.

Glenn is still in the nursing facility, he goes on medicare next month and will be able to get physical therapy.  As for when or if he will be able to get out?  We just don't know.

Keep your spirits up JoAnn and think positive.  God will make a way!  Life is a struggle and when it gets tough....just hang on!

JoAnn I hope that your husband progresses on a steady pace.  My husband also was very ill starting with breast cancer (yes men do get it and it is very uncommon only about 1000 cases a year) and various other surgeries the past 4 years.  I will add you to my prayers.  I believe it helps.  One thing I learned is that you will be surprised at the number of kind people you will meet during this journey.    The best to you and your hubby.  Joyce

So sorry JoAnn!  Seems like you've had a hard couple of years!  A dislocated hip?  Wow!  Didn't know dogs did that.  One time I dislocated a shoulder.  OUCH!  Not sure if a dog will do physical therapy.  I hope your husband gets better soon and that you get an even better job!

We have a patch of walking onions.  I love those things!  They provide green onions all year!  Are yours the normal kind?

You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Crossing fingers for your cuttings!

Suzi

So sorry about the rough patch, JoAnn.  It will get better.
JoAnn (from CA)

I'm so very sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing. Things are going to have to turn for the better soon.

JoAnn, I'm sorry life has been so rough lately.  I will pray for you as well.

Say positive, JoAnn.  I'm glad you checked in.  We miss you and hope the next report is filled with joy.  Hang in there.

Thanks for the kind words and inspiration!

The pup (Luce) has had 3 hip surgeries in the last 10 month - and she has only 2 hips!  She hasn't even been spayed yet - I just don't have it in me to put her through another surgery yet - OY!  maybe next year.  The first one, she was favoring the leg - no crying and she would even run!! The second hip, just 7 weeks ago was a big OUCHY!!  Emergency vet since it was on a Sunday, then surgery with "her surgeon".  Would you believe my dog even has a surgeon!!LOL  At least I had insurance for her with the last one - whew!  It also covers physical therapy - yeah!!!

Suzi, I never hear of walking onions!  Leave it to my figgy friends to come up with the unusual stuff;)

I haven't been outside to check the cuttings - it's been cold!!  BUT!!!!  I was going through the fridge and found cuttings I haven't rooted yet!  I'll have to look at them more closely to see if they could still be viable.  I had a spare fridge in the garage with cuttings I bought from Jon - Things have been so complicated I don't remember if it was last year or the year before!  The fridge died, I have to look in the garage to see if anything is there..... even the cuttings from the family tree were there!  I know that tree is still alive so I'm sure I could get some.

I had a bunch of large cuttings from Jon, it was a variety pack-some were fairly large and thick.  I also had black Madiera and Malta black and a few others from his cuttings available.  With the new puppy the first year and all of the other stuff the second, I just didn't have time for the fun stuff, so I never got around to rooting them:(

I'll have to take a picture of the in ground tree, it grew a lot last year and needs to be pruned.

Jo-Ann,

Is it Luce's breed?  Some breeds are prone to stuff.  Sorry.  She's young, so hopefully she'll recover fast!

I bought my walking onions on Ebay and I never gave a thought if it was a legitimate seller... LOL.  They are Egyptian Walking onions.  Instead of flowering, they bear sets on a stem, and as the stem gets heavier it bends and the sets then root into the ground. Thus the name "Walking Onions."  The onion bulbs are spicy HOT!  We just use them for Green Onions.  3 or 4 each night chopped in a salad.  They die back a little during cold spells.

I hope some of your cuttings can survive being in the dead fridge.  We have one in the garage too, and it's in use all the time.  One day I noticed a big puddle of water under it.  Freezer died.  We weighed the cost of fixing it or getting a new one, and we actually saved money by fixing it.  It's like new again.  The thing about cuttings is they can be replaced with the same lack of rooting guarantee the first ones had.....

The fridge was tossed out to the curb!  It was very old and not worth putting money into it - I think it was 25-30 years old!  We bought it used to keep in the garage.  The other cuttings are in the kitchen fridge.  With only 2 people, and now one, I have more room then I need!

The surgeon said she doesn't see any breed specific stuff with the hips - unluck of the dice, especially the last one when she was just running in the house after a ball.  She only ran about 10 ft - oh well, won't have to deal with this again!

She was groomed today and looks very poodley. Since she had 3 different lengths of hair after the last surgery, I decided to even her out in the hind quarters, she had "bracelets" from the surgeon - one left on the same ankle the hip was done and the other on the opposite front paw.  So I figured what the heck I'll put her in a semi show clip since she is almost there.

So here she is! The first 2 from today and the last from 2 years ago as a puppy!
