OT Cheap Outdoor 4th of July Party Lighting DIY

I got this idea on Pinterest for making Tiki Torches from wine bottles.  Here is our first test tiki torch:

Ooooohhh!  Too much fire!!  So, now we learned.  Trim the wick really short!!  That's Verte you see next to the deck on the right.

Here are the soldiers all ready to light the night at our 4th of July Party:

So easy!  Screw top Wine bottles, half filled with water, with Tiki Torch Fuel on top of that.  Cut an X in the caps, thread a tiki torch wick through, screw the cap on, and done!  We will light all these, then trim them really close.  They will help people navigate the decks on the 4th.  Gets pretty dark up here at night.  You could also use citronella if you have skeeter issues.  Too dry here for those buggers!

Here is the practice one down on the pool deck.  That little glow by the pool:

Looks amazing.
Even if we don't have 4th of july celebrations here in Germany, it's a nice idea for a summer garden party.
Thanks for the idea!

Btw: You have a beautiful property

Thanks!  I thought some of you would like the idea.  We get this cheap wine (tastes good though) for like $3.00 per bottle.  We live in Southern California where there are many surfing beaches, so we thought the Kahuna label would go well with our space.  They also have Shiraz in an Orange label, and Merlot in Purple, so after the 4th, I'll collect some of those colors for autumn parties.

We are going to anchor our torches to rebar in ground (far from any plants) and to the wrought iron on all our decks with holiday ribbon.  The bottles are heavy filled with half water and half torch fuel, but a strong wind could dump them and start a fire.  Safety first!!

If I wanted to be really creative, I'd have steamed off those labels, but nobody will care.  They just want to see bumps in the paths in the dark, and steps on the decks.  Last year with no lighting, I feared for our guests safety.

Almost Verte Flambee!

And figs are amazing flambe!!  Well, we do ours on the grill, but Flambe is not a bad idea.  Not with a tiki torch however.  I'm thinking fig brandy soaked figs on some custard thingy.  Lit, and doused.  Oh my!

Molotov figs?!?  Keep a bucket of sand and a hose handy just in case!

Hate to be that mountain lion with those cocktails near by.

JD!!! 3 O'clock!  ,,, swoooooosh.
JD!!! another one, 10 O'clock!

All this without leaving the seat.

Ha. Rafed!  We do have those lazy lions around here.  But they don't like my shotgun.  as for the molatov.  no chance.  there is a lot of space between the screw cap and the torch fuel.  It's all good.
