OT: Dew Berries are ripening now!

Took my boys on the annual dew berry pick yesterday. Its just starting here in Zone 9A/B. I would say 80% were still red, some green ones and even a few flowers still. Gonna be pickin for several weeks starting now. I can remeber eating my self sick on these things as a kid. They still taste as good as the first time I tried one years ago. Ive grown several of the cultivated varieties like Kiowa, Tupi and Chickasaw but none of those come close to the real deal. Just wish they were bigger!

My youngest didnt have too many in his bag as he couldnt stop eating them;) We picked enough to make a cobbler and had it for desert last night. Good times!

Yup, I see purple fingers!

gorgeous children!

I just had a thought...shouldn't "U-pick" orchards be weighing the children?

Thanks Grasa!

LOL, thats a good point Rui, only this isnt a Upick operation were at, just a field by the house but I see your point! My two lager headed kids can put a hurtin on some fruit. Im going to have to put electric wire around my Blueberry plants if want any this season. Every day I come home from work I take a stroll through the garden of eden and I always note which cluster of berries are turning color. The next day there gone! So I sit them down and question who where how and what. They say, what blueberries Dad, then smile with blue teeth! May have to resort to waterboarding to get some answers!!! I know its not the birds cause the netting is in place! Its got to be little fingers!

kewl beans :) i had to look up what they are. i received some blackberries from a generous member and bunch of raspberries in different colors from another extremely generous forum member is on the way. with blueberry and all the other berries, i'll be eating lot of pancakes coming yrs :)

only if the mulberries, persimmons and pom will root... i won't have to go to supermarket for fruits any more... wait... i need banana, and apple, but i don't think i want to grow them here... maybe mongo...

Ive been doing some research on Mango Pete. There are Condo Mangos that are able to be grown in pots but they would be more of a novelty than anything. I could grow it in ground here but major freeze protection measures would have to be deployed a couple times a year. I did get a Sweetheart Lychee tree this season and Ive been hand pollinating the flowers for several weeks now just to be sure some set fruit. I cant wait to try them. Suppost to be the King of Fruits! The tropical fruits are very inviting!!!

bb,

Mallika was suggested. one of the forum member grow this in pot up in PA and it does ok. been looking at it for awhile. maybe on father's day...
