OT: Do you grow Hardy Kiwis?

If you grow Hardy Kiwis, please check the Blog I started in an attempt to find out why Actinidia leaves are getting random shaped Yellow spots/blotches, and report whether the spots (AYLS) are ABSENT or PRESENT in your plants via the Blog Map page (not on this F4F Post).  See the Blog:  http://kiwifruitayls.wordpress.com
If someone you know grows Hardy Kiwis but isn't a Member of this Forum, please send them the Blog link.

Every location reporting will help us narrow the possibilities and focus on the most likely cause.  Of special interest to me is the Michigan Peninsula including Detroit due to AYLS presence at two locations in the Toronto area.

Hey kiwibob-
I grow hardy and arctic kiwi here in Maine.   No leaf spots that I've noticed around here.

No leaf spots in Lancaster, PA

No spots here in Westminster CO. The plants came from Raintree on the west coast. They are suffering from what looks like a nutritional(?) issue resulting in interveinal chlorosis, and one succumbed to a fungal(?) issue this summer.

I'm halfway between Toronto and Detroit and no signs on my leaves.

Thanks to all who have replied thus far to this post.  Many more data points are needed to get a better idea of where AYLS is PRESENT or ABSENT.  If you are growing Hardy Kiwis, please got to the Blog Map page and reply.  http://kiwifruitayls.wordpress.com

Thanks,   kiwibob, Seattle

Bob,

Do you sell plants?  I have been interested in growing them, but I'm still not sure where I am going to put them.  Any chance they can be grown as a shrub in a container rather than as a vine?

Hi! Kiwibob,

I am also growing hardy kiwis and fuzzy AU Golden Sunshine (female), AU Golden Tiger (male) and 4 other green kiwis in Silver Spring, Maryland. All of them are very healthy, no diseases at all. AU Golden Sunshine and Tiger are very cold hardy. Last year, I planted them in the ground from one-gallon pots and they survived last winter at zero degrees with no branch damage. This is the second year that they are in the ground. All my fuzzy kiwis are growing very fast. Thanks for sharing.

Best,
Tam

I forwarded the link to a Kiwi grower in the area.

I gave up trying to root Kiwi.
Luckily I found a nursery that had them so now I have 3 "magic" Artic Kiwi.  They are named "magic" because they are hardy to Zone 4 and produce tasty smooth skinned kiwi.

I noticed now that one of the plants has some yellow,  Is this AYLS?  If it is do you think I should return this one the other 2 have no symptoms?

Thanks to all Hardy Kiwi growers who have replied to my initial post.  Many more data points are still needed so if you grow Hardy Kiwis, please take the time to reply via the Blog whether AYLS is ABSENT or PRESENT in your plants.  http://kiwifruitayls.wordpress.com
