OT: Earth Worms, good or bad???

I'd like to hear about your thoughts on earth worms in pots with young and older fig trees...
I noticed that some of my 1 gallon pots that sit on open dirt tend to be lighter in weight than pots sitting on concrete or patios away from open dirt, obviously from the worms eating up stuff... Is there a benefit??? Bad issues???

Hi Simon.
You have free humus from those worms pooping all over the pot. I dont think something is gone to waste but the soil is turned to humus which is a better plant food.
Also noticed alot of them when i started mulching. let them be its an indicator of good micro-enviroment.

Earth worms are great sign of beneficial microbes/bacteria in the soil and means you got good soil. Their poop(castings) is often referred to as black gold. Red Wigglers are the type people buy for vermi-composting and people sware by it.

Natural soil aeration.

Red wigglers are little work horses!!! They aerate and fertilize the soil!

Good stuff, thanks for the replies and info...
I have never really kept anything in a pot for longer than a year, mainly plumerias when rooting, but now with this new dig hobby I'm in my second year with potted trees and wanted some extra info....
