Hello friends I have 2 grapes vines that need a pruning. The one on the left is Flame and on the right Thomson Seedless. They provided a lot of grapes last year. I was hoping one of the pro's could give me some tips. Newbie here.

Brian, I prune all whips to 2-3 nodes. Fruit is produced on new growth. Try to maintain mature wood to achieve basic structure, whether along a fence, overhead on an arbor, or whatever. They'll put out a lot of growth, so hard pruning will keep them manageable.

Hello Brianm--Congrats on your grape crops last year!! With proper pruning your vines should produce for years to come. I have had both Flame and Thompson seedless for some years now and have enjoyed great crops from both after they were established.  Fruit is produced on new growth each year however each variety requires a different pruning technique The Flame variety does best with an established (permanent) cordon structure where spurs are established every 6"-8" along the cordon and each spur is individually pruned. On the other hand the Thompson Seedless is best "cane pruned" from a central head where the vine is reduced to 2 canes from the previous year laid out on your trellis for production. Another two canes pruned to 2-3 buds for next years producing canes.
