so.. i go to good amount of camping and backpacking. breakfast is usually oatmeal or pop tarts. take you pick. it's hard to swallow oatmeal without any flavor. then again, oatmeal with flavor isn't all the great either.
most of the guys will just chew on them and swallow it with bit of water even without thinking about adding boiling water.
so, how do we make oatmeal edible.
simple. variety is the spice of life.. and in what we put into our mouth. but i would rather say, "spice is what brings light to our life".
add some flavor into the oatmeal that you would enjoy.
there are two different things that will make any meal amazing. i know it's not politically correct to say next 4 words, but here they are. "bacon dripping and butter".
unlike what most people think, bacon dripping and butter is possible in camping and backpacking in late fall, winter and early spring. pack them in a ziploc bag and you are ready to go.
but, don't forget the spice of life. garlic.
everything tastes better with bacon and butter, french even has term for adding butter into cooking at end to enrich the sauce.
after nice night of drinking, i usually get some "munches". to resolve that problem, i'm having oatmeal. pinch of salt, pinch of cayenne pepper, bit of black pepper and salt.. and don't forget.. BUTTER!
