I have a small mulberry tree, about 8 ft tall with a 3in caliper at the base. This is the first year it has given significant fruit, 4 waves ripening, 2-3 cups of fruit each time. I will still get one or two more harvests like this.

Does anyone have any advice on pruning? I am trying to grow it for both fruit and shade. 

I have to tell this story: years ago, when I was an undergrad, I was in the backyard of my fraternity house studying for a final exam under the shade of our mulberry tree. At one point one of the birds flew off the tree and crapped a purple, mulberry-generated bird crap directly onto my notes.

I knew at that moment that I had no prayer of passing that exam!
