OT: persimmon rooting

i'm rather strange in sense that i like doing things that is said to be hard to do or not possible. so i'm trying to root persimmon. from what i have read, persimmon has to be grafted to native or some other root stock. some others have tried to root them, but it's almost impossible.

so i started trying to root them like figs. so far it seems like everyone else is right. i don't see any roots yet even with clonex. but have a cute looking bud breaking x)

i'm afraid this might be just like mulberries. break bud and put on the leaves and no roots.

it's korean persimmon called Tam Kam... it's kaki.

If anyone wants a Fuyu persimmon cutting pm me

From what I understand, the Oriental persimmons need to be grafted to the native persimmon.  I did a whip graft last year on a native persimmon and a Fuyu persimmon.  I got one of 2 attempts to take.  This year I bought some native persimmon seeds off ebay and am trying to sprout them.  I really like the Fuyu persimmon which is non-astringent and can be eaten when firm like an apple.

next spring, i might get some seedlings and do some grafting. something new to try.

I have propagated persimmons in different methods. Last year a Greek man who has a tree grown from seed, said that he was successful rooting some persimmon cuttings, in mid summer. He showed me one growing in a bucket, said out of 10 one is growing.
So I tried his method and wasn't successful. Not sure if this was a sucker or was it really an actual cutting.
I was successful planting root suckers and it will send top growth. I've grown from seeds, but the successful way is grafting, which is very tricky with persimmons.

Bass, Russia also has a gardener, who claims to be rooted cuttings persimmon. But there is no picture. I believe, in the home, can not be rooted cuttings.

Bottom line, grafting is the way to go with persimmons.

I have tried one year to root persimmon cuttings but 0% success.
