OT....POSTING/TYPING RESPONSES

Has anyone else become a little frustrated that when posting a message, the text disappears when the space bar is used, and you must scroll down in order to read the words?  Really annoying not to be able to read, correct, edit, as you are typing.

Sorry Jon...the older format was easier to use.

Frank

You can make the edit box larger by dragging the lower right corner to the size of your text.

Thank-you Jon...I'm not great on the computer, and did not know I had that option.

End of thread.  Sorry I wasted the space.

Frank

Edit:    Thank-you ANDREW...sorry.

I have been having great difficulty deleting PM's recently.  It's like playing 'whack-a-mole' sometimes.

Thanks for the tip, Andrew.

It's important to note that this forum is hosted, created and maintained by a company outside of Jon's control - Jon just uses their free service, and they upgrade and change the forum as they see fit.

Asking or notifying Jon about new features at this forum is sort of like complaining to your butcher about feature changes with your free email account with Hotmail or GMail and expecting him to do something.

Jason,

Thanks for that information.

Frank

Jason, unfortunately, it isn't free (I wish),  but it was a simple solution to starting and ad-free forum on the cheap.

It does appear that they are having some teething problems with and upgrade.

Hopefully the day will come when we can migrate to a different platform, but it has served pretty well as we are a few weeks from our 5th anniversary.

And there i some more exciting Figs 4 Fun news coming in a couple months.

Dang Jon 5 years already ?
Your getting old !

I didn't realize you went with their pro service :(

If you every want a truly "free" solution, same offer still stands that I made a few years ago:  you can host on one of my permanent hosting accounts with Dreamhost for free.  I have a few friends that have been hosting with me upwards of 8 years now, when I make that commitment, it's generally permanent..... I can look into what forum packages they support.

Noss,

There is a trade-off. Allowing editing lets people correct and update things, which can be handy. But it also can make the following posts look funny when the point that they commented on has been edited or changed. By labeling the additional comment with "Edit", it leaves the original post unchanged, but also shows an update has been made. It isn't required, but it can be very helpful to let people know when you have changed something.

I use the same format when a post gets corrupted or some such thing, and I have to clean it up and re-post it - so that people will understand what has taken place. Kind of a transparency thing. It shows that I have edited someone else's post - which I hate doing unless there is no other solution. I think I have been able to keep that down to a couple times a year.

Hey I'm glad you asked. I didn't know it either!

I just now learned that you can not only expand the box by dragging the shaded lines at the bottom sideways...but you can make the posting box deeper by dragging the shaded lines straight down.  Now the text doesn't disappear!  See, I told you...you didn't believe me when I admitted that I stink when it comes to using a computer.

Now, my problem is solved....no more disappearing text.  I swear, I will get someone to show me how to post photos....soon, maybe...

Frank

Edit....If you hit the "enter" key...when you are typing on the last line, no matter how big the box is...you still have the text of your posting disappearing below the southern border of the box.  Slightly annoying.

Well, it's nice to see that all the money, and time, I spent getting a degree in computers paid off.
