Thank Steve for the mention of our Blog - http://seaberry-hippophaerhamnoides.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/german-sea-buckthorn-variety-report.html The growing season is just starting here in Northern Maine and we are looking forward to posting more and expanding to a fully active Permaculture Farm and research/education location.  On the blog there are links to our Facebook page.  Lots of updates and info there.  We would love hearing from people about their experiences with Seabuckthorn and their other favorite plants and innovation. Thanks again - Tom

I tried to grow several varieties but it is just too hot for them here in Southern California and they all died.

I've considered growing them here in northern california.  They sound interesting....

Even though seabuckthorn is sun loving and drought tolerant.  The only success I have heard about in the warmest areas is under shade-cloth in the summer.  Even then, I am not sure they would set fruit since @ 80 days of cool weather(or cold) is needed for setting the flower buds. Here is a pic of a female flower, tiny thing.  Hope the pic doesn't post too big.
