OT: so we have foundation problem at home.

one area is cracked. it start on top with 3/16" and goes down to hair line. structural engineer came out and check it.

he saw my fig trees and mentioned his family has huge fig tree. so i gave him one.

he suggest redoing the gutter and regrading the area around the house. good last 3 weeks been house hell.

Pete, things are awful, but if you can look at others, your problems become more manageable. This is what my state is dealing with now

it is manageable and i have an action plan. it was just funny how the SE noticed the figs right away :)

It's been my impression that edible landscaping is becoming more in vogue among more upscale suburbanite types, ever since the last peak in the late 80's early '90s.

maybe, but there is nothing to look at on my front and back yard. just random pots with fig trees. now blueberries and mulberries will join. then some pomegranate.. and persimmon. maybe a mango or two.. all in containers.

So what did he think is causing it?  Just ground slippage?  If there are no trees nearby, can't be roots.  Hmmmmmmmmm  Save his report in case you ever need to sell.  These things have to be verified fixed, or disclosed.  Bummer!

Cost us big bucks ($30,000...made us rip out the slab and re-do with proper rebar) to fix a couple foundation cracks on Jim's mom's estate.

darned clay and water. we need to upgrade the gutter and regrade the ground. it one minor crack. with gutter and regrade, it should stabilize. if not some helix thing to stabilize the thing.

Well, you need to take comfort that you are not in a flood zone, right?  Who are you hiring to do the re-grade.  We have a grading problem in front.  We dug it all out, but would like to plant (not figs) pretty things there, but whoever graded this place first time around screwed up.  The whole front yard slopes to the house, so we did divert, but not cheap!

We redid the gutters and the grading when we bought our place in Fair Lawn.
