OT- Super flooding in the Carolinas!

I know it's probably flooding in Missouri and other states too but man ole man....it has been raining soooooo much in Charlotte. I've never seen it come down so fast like it is now! The creek adjacent to my property has tripled in size. My container trees may float away ! This is insane.

I sure hope it lets up for you, Dennis. The weather is insane everywhere. Supposed to be 50-70 degrees ABOVE normal at the North Pole in the next few days. It's more than can be blamed on El Nino.

Hey, Snaglpus: I hope things stay stable out inbyour area! I did hear this was going to be a difficult year with weather.
Meg

Ps: post pictures if you can. Tripled in size?!!!

We have rivers running through our pasture and you cannot walk even on hillsides without squishing. We have had so much rain, the red clay has acquired the consistency of snail snot. Watched the horses slowly slide downhill while standing still and eating a bale of hay tossed over the fence because its too wet to get the big bales in. Half way expecting fig trees to slide downhill and end up on the driveway. Another inch or so of rain due today.  Noah, get out your Ark, SC is flooding too.

Here they are!

Here is the pool house. The pool, road and creek is completely flooded. This photo is not mine. I got it from our community Facebook page.

Hoping the rain lets up long enough for the flooding to abate.  Take care, be safe.

Didn't you guys just get flooded earlier this year?  Dang.

Wow - Be Safe Dennis, hope for the best for you and your family!

Oh no, stay safe buddy!  Make sure you get your documents and photos up to higher ground jussssst in case!

Crawl spaces do not prevent flooding, but it does raise the house off the ground.
When water rises above the crawl space it will be inside the house too.
I can stand upright under one end of my house but it tapers up to 2+ feet off the ground.
We are getting hammered down here in Chester SC too.
Everybody take care and bunker down!

Doug

The only good thing is that it is not salt water, I have seen my stuff float away and the soil become useless for years.....

Stay safe

Alan, what you are saying is misleading to anybody with a crawl space.
I have built, maintained and was a hvac contractor for years. I have been under hundreds of houses in SC. 70-80% have crawl spaces.
The fact is, crawl spaces are meant for air circulation in warmer months to
keep wood from condensation. Crawl spaces are where many furnaces are located.
Crawl spaces many times have the well pump and pressure tank there as well.
Crawl spaces have nothing to do with preventing flooding.
Trailers have a crawl space, do they not flood?
How many homes in NC or SC that are flooded right now also have crawl spaces?

Only your elevation, drainage of your property (whether man made drainage or natural slope drainage)
will prevent flooding.
A crawl space is not flood insurance, trust me.
Not a argument, just facts.
Have fun

Doug

Your welcome, just trying to help.

Doug

Everyone who is dealing with flooding, we are praying that you and your families will be safe. Wow, Dennis, the pictures are intense! I just hope waters will soon recede and everyone will be safe.
Meg

Stay safe, everyone. Georgia has a lot of flooding, too. Not nearly as bad as Missouri and Illinois, but bad.
It has been unusually warm here, too. It has been in the high 60's and low seventies for a couple weeks. Most of my figs in containers still have leaves. It is supposed to get down to 27 degrees or so for the lows over the next few days and mid-50's for the highs.

I pulled all the potted figs into the garage this evening, not sure how the temp swings will affect them in his year.
