OT To All New Yorkers

Finishing up visiting your great NYC. Fun filled four days at shows, touring
and eating of course. Wish I had time to visit other cities this trip.

Hope you enjoyed your visit, and that you were treated with civility.  Sometimes New Yawkers get a bad rap.  That's because we're always stressed, or, rushing to meet some deadline.  Come back soon.

Frank

Don't leave NYC before you get a good Pastrami-on-Rye from Katz's Deli on Grand St.

Am off to NY in 7 days cant wait to see the place, we are staying for 8 nights in Chelsea.
Can you recommend any nice places to eat or see :)

You might be interested in this if you like dumplings. When I was last there 6 months ago -  5 dumplings for a $1 (heavy on the chives)

The first one, you couldn’t buy anything for a $1 at the other 2. Probably going again on the 28th, I'll be in the city for a Dave Davies show at the Winery.

Don’t know if you ever had Dim Sum it can be quite good.

They roll carts around the dinning room with small dishes with all kinds of dumpling “like” things. You pick what looks good.

Zagat been rating big city restaurants for decades.

Restaurants can be very pricey in the City, most of these out of my range

Unfortunately most are in Brooklyn

You going to the 9/11 Memorial? You need a pass in advance.

Have a great time

For Jewish Deli-style sandwiches...Katz's on Grand St.  So good you could plotz!  Reasonable prices.

Chinese food:  Wo Hop (below street level down one flight) No. 15 Mott Street 212-566-3841...after 5:30 PM and you'll wait for a table.  it's worth it.  Off Mott St, you can buy 5 dumplings for $1.00 and they are great.  Eat them while you walk.  A great, cheap nosh.  See Video.

Joe's Shangai:  DELICIOUS soup dumplings, Dim Sum, etc.  Family style dining.  Good way to meet and greet New Yawkers.  Try Salt and pepper Shrimp....delish!  Reasonable prices.

Little Italy...over rated.  Bring your money.  Better yet, eat at somewhere close, and go there for Italian pastry and black coffee.  China Town is literally across the street...Canal St.  So, it's close.

Chelsea is not far, in fact, you could walk East, take in the sights,  and then, chow-down on some good eats.  Chelsea is loaded with great restaurants, for that matter, so is all of Lower Manhattan.  Greenwich Village ain't too far from where you're staying, but it isn't what it used to be.  It used to be "interesting", now, it's just blah, and sleezy.

Canal St is famous for designer knock-offs.

You'll love it!  Enjoy the "Capital of the World"....The "Big Apple"  You could stay awake 24 hrs. a day, and never run out of things to see, and do.  Sleep only if you have to.

Frank

Oh how I wish I could go NOW!!!!   I miss the city and the food!!

I was going to suggest Wo Hops but Frank!!  You beat me to it!!  I was introduced to Wo Hops back in the early 80's, there was a guy I was seeing and he like Chinese food so we hit the city and went to Wo Hops 2-3 time a month from LI.  Usually around midnight or so and yes there were lines even at that hour!  And worth every minute!
Is the Hong Kong Cake place around the corner still there?  It was a "booth" behind a garage door around the corner in the alley - oh what memories....

JoAnn,

China Town went through a major revamp, and a lot of the old places have closed.  It's sort of losing its old charm, and too many yuppie shops have taken over.  It's too bad.  Big Wang's gone too.  Best soup in the world!  Little Italy, is almost finished also.  The Chinese have expanded uptown, and took over a lot of the Italian joints.  The original owners either died, naturally, or, not, or retired.  It ain't as mobbed up as it used to be either.  There was a time....(cue: nostalgic music)... when you could at least expect a good shooting while having dinner.  Not anymore.

Everything changes.

Frank

LMAO @ expect a good shooting. China Town and  Little Italy used to be such a joy to visit, but alas as you said, everything has changed. So called "renovations" have killed the charm of what was once a delight for the senses. :o(

Sue...

LMAO because you LYAO.  At least you have a good sense of humor.  The Cannoli are still good, though.

Frank

Thank you for all the great information, can't wait !!!

Luke
