OT: what's in your pocket?

Pete,

I understand the reasoning with so many bottle openers.
Teeth just not as strong anymore. I can relate.

rafed, yupe. already crushed two molars. the dentist wanted to put implants in my mouth. told them how many cases of Guinness i can buy with that kind of money. they have different priority...

The nerves of him trying to take your beer money

Is that .25 cents or a .25 auto?

I never leave home without my Kershaw Blackout knife. It has a partially-serrated tanto blade and flips open with ease. Just never know when something will need to be cut.

John,

You have good taste. Kershaw is one of the best IMO.

Thanks, Rafed. I've always carried a knife since I was a kid. I had my first Kershaw for years. It weathered saltwater, dirt and tons of use/abuse. I think I even threw it a few times. I finally killed it, by trying to pry something open with it (tip snapped off; my fault for being stupid). I immediately bought another one, as well as one for my wife.

Oh yeah, I then reground the tip on the first knife; took it apart for cleaning, and it is now a backup.

Hi,
In my front pockets, coins and keys. And the rear pockets three banknotes.
You guys never take the plane ? Some 8 years ago, at the airport the guy told me " that small knife is for trash here. You knew it ! ".
I looked straight at him - no way - I already took the plane 3 times and no one complained - it is small .
We settled for a "next time !" - I wasn't flying to the USA - just a national flight .
Since then I have no knife and so no bottle opener, screwdriver ... But the beer makers are nice and tricky guys . Now, you turn and it is opened !

we have something called interstate highway. i don't fly unless i have to, and there are other things that i can carry. but the knife is not used as weapon, it's a cutting tool. i have different thing for weapon.

Leatherman Wave does it all for me. Don't leave home without it.

Frank,

Is that restriction just NYC, or the whole state?

Just had a conversation yesterday about knife laws in Ohio. Most municipalities have their on codes about what is legal and it floats around a 2 1/4" blade. Bur that is if it is concealed and that means also that it must be "ready at hand." I carry a Northwoods w/ lovely stag scales in a pocket sheath sometimes. Definitely not "ready at hand" in my mind.

Dale-

When it comes to knife and gun laws in NYC...who knows.  The laws change from year to year.  You have to dig hard and deep to find out what the latest changes to the statutes might be....however, it's safe to assume that the laws about knife and gun possession will always become more, not less, restrictive.  This is the "New York Mentality"...restrict, control, totally progressive-liberal, and paternalistic.  If you run up against the "law" for any reason....you are in deep trouble, especially if it's a gun/knife violation.  The courts will not be on your side.  Our wonderful communist/socialist Mayor, just reversed the "stop, question, and, frisk" laws, that actually worked, and got results!  NYC proper is the worst.  Very, very restrictive firearm/knife laws.  Very few get permits to carry "concealed".  You have to show cause and then prove your "need" for a concealed-carry permit.  However, if you know some low people in high places, you'll get the permit.  NYS laws vary, but they are generally more gun and knife friendly.  In NYC you need a permit to own a firearm and another permit to own a rifle/shotgun, and they both cost a fortune to get, and to renew, every few years.  New York City....the 'Gestapo City'....if, you get caught.

Your knives all look too clean and new, Pete! Of course, I use mine as a pry bar, shovel, screwdriver, and everything else you shouldn't...

Currently I have a CRKT Drifter.

I used to use the Gerber Trendy, that was an excellent little knife! I couldn't find them anymore and lost a few, so now this.

kelby,

clean and sharp knives are safe knives :) i clean them right after heavy use. strop them once in awhile.. sharpen them if dull.. peanut butter works great getting stuff off the blades.
