OT: What's on the grill? TURKEY LEGS!

Trying out my 14.5" WSM on some turkey legs, corn on the cob, and sweet potatoes.  Smells darn good!

Frank that looks yummy very yummy and sweet potatoes and corn on the cob oh yeah Babe.

Frank,

Those look great! The past many times I smoked chicken, I removed the skin. If you have a secret for chicken/turkey skin on the smoker that is crispy AND doesn't shrivel up to leave most of the meat uncovered, I'm all ears

Toothpicks. Pull the skin up tight and sort of sew the toothpick in skin through the meat out through skin. Pins it up real nice.

I'll bring the beer

Calvin,

I tried that the last time I smoked chicken with the skin on. I spatchcocked the chicken and pinned the skin around the edges. The skin tore around the toothpicks and shriveled. Even when the skin did not pull back (whole chicken), it was not worth eating. I've thought about getting the chicken to about 130F in the smoker, then finishing off in the deep fryer (finishing in the oven wasn't much of an improvement). I'm okay with smoking a naked bird, but I love crispy skin.

That's too bad. Sorry, thought it would be worth a try. Honestly, I don't cook a whole lot in my smoker. I do smoke 60-75lbs of different sausages and 2 sides of bacon every year though. That makes for eating plenty of smoked stuff at the casa.
Pinning the skin with a tooth pic works alright in the oven though, I do it all the time to keep the breast on turkey and chicken covered. I imagine the higher heat is why the skin rocks in the oven or on the grill.

That looks delicious, I'm a big fan of smoking as well. Was gonna do some ribs today but half of my house is sick so it wasn't in the cards.

That's a Brown Turkey even Jon can't resist.

Ha!

Well, my 2 year old son certainly loved it.  I'd cut up a serving for him, take a bite out of mine, and he'd chant 'more, more!'
It was my first time smoking corn.  I had peeled back the shuck, smeared with butter and pepper, then tie the shuck back up.  Smoked for 2 hours.  Wasn't too bad.  Sweet potatoes were fantastic.   We eat them without adding anything else to it.  So good.
Was it worth the 4 hours for the turkey?  Yep!  I do a few Boston Butts per year too, but that's an 8-9 hour deal.

Rafed,

Ha!  Very clever!  :)

what, no figs to grill?
