I've looked at quite a few local nurseries for an Asian Persimmon Tree (preferably Hachiya) with no luck. Do any of you know of a nursery in PA (or South Jersey) that carries them? Thanks! :)
I feel your pain. I have searched nurseries in my part of Ohio to no avail. I think there is just not enough demand up here.FWIW, I plan to buy one in the fall from http://ediblelandscaping.com or http://http://www.justfruitsandexotics.com
I just saw Hachiya at my local HomeDepot this afternoon and almost bought one. They looked really healthy. I have a fuyu I bought from Martha's Secrets (eBay) early this spring, but it hasn't bloomed yet. Looking forward to next year.
I'm jealous, Rick! Those Southern Home Depots really have a much better selection when it comes to edibles.
I vaguely remember seeing an Asian persimmon at Stauffer's of Kissel Hill. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a Hachiya though.
I saw Holly Days Nursery in Horsham had some Jiro Persimmon trees a few weeks back. There's also an Asian store at 16th and Washington that carries them (same center as Big 8 market).
Check your local Walmart. Last week Walmart (Texas) had a Hachiya on sale. I bought a 6 foot tree for $17 (Original price $35).
Bass (member here) sells some persimmons. Check out his site "trees of joy". not sure which varieties he has.
I have some persimmon trees, not many left at this time.
