OT---Florida Grove/Bird Pepper EDIT-picture added

I am looking for the pepper plant seeds that grow in the citrus groves in Florida.  If you have been around Florida for a while you might know what I am talking about.  I would like either seeds or dried peppers for the seeds.  I will trade cuttings for these peppers/seeds.

Brazilian pepper?

Are you talking about tepin peppers, which are also called bird peppers?

I have wild chiltepin seed from Tx, if you want them.

Edit: Based on the picture, there are not what you are looking for.

I did a search for Grove pepper and it is different than the tepin pepper.  I've been growing the tepin pepper a few years.

The seed is available from The Seed Saver's Exchange.

The Chiltipin is a small round, very hot pepper.

Before the latest round of peppers Ghost, Scorpion etc., it was considered in the top 5 for heat.

The Bird pepper, which was brought to Thomas Jefferson's estate and sold by SSE, is very hot.

The Chiltipin is scorching hot.

I have a pepper I grow that goes by various names - nuke bomb, rat sh*t, bird seed. I got the seeds while I was in the USAF in Thailand. A small pepper. I think I remember the FL pepper. Went looked @ the eBay listing. Would be interested but wouldn't want 100 seeds.

Danny K , I used to grow the Florida grove pepper you are talking about.
I don't have seed anymore , but I'll ask my brother living in Florida, who gave it to me originally, if he still has some seed.
Nice flavor and reminded me of tabasco type peppers.

Hi Danny. I know the feeling of wanting a pepper from a certain location and only that location. Wife and I visit the Bahama 'out islands' every year. The island that we visit has their own version of Bird Pepper that's very hot but has a nice flavor. I found that the pepper grows wild and is coveted by the locals who are fortunate enough to know the location of a bush. We've become very close with the locals over the years and they're more like family than friends. The older generation tells us the wild peppers have medicinal value in addition to culinary. They also tell us that seeds cannot be propagated outside the islands. Well, I fell in love with the pepper (or the lore) and with their blessing have tried to propagate and they are right. Can't get em to grow. Maybe it's just inexperience growing peppers but I've tried many times with no luck. It's become my white whale. Has even prompted me to purchase the domain http://www.birdpepper.com 10 or so years ago. Have a vision of making a bird pepper sauce and marketing on website. Money would go back to locals for school and community.

Anyway, I grew a few pequins late this year. Still small. They are close to the bird peppers that I know. Will take 1 in the house for winter and you are welcome to the other 2 if you like. PM your address if interested.

Danny,
I am familiar with the Bahamian pepper as I lived on Andros Island 1978-81.  I grew up in Florida and my Grandfather was a Grove Manager and brought the peppers home from the groves.  I started and grew a couple in Florida but when I moved to Texas I left them behind.  The new property owner had small children and took them out so I cannot get them.  I have found that growing peppers from seed is indeed hard to do.  If I get 25% I consider it a wonderful result with most common being 5-10%.  I am currently growing Habanero, Scotch Bonnet, Serrano, Anaheim, and Fooled You Jalapeno.

Thank you for the offer but I am looking for the Florida strain.

Rgrds,
Danny K
