Hi Mario,
Thank you for the offer. I met Mike over the weekend and he gave a few plants he had from his fig inventory. He said you were more experienced in fig growing than he or myself. Last year was my first year growing figs. Unfortunately, I think I went overboard an am now at full capacity. I have around 10 fig plants and 8 more ordered.
I would like to meet and have a fig-sharing event. That sounds like it would be fun. I assume it would be late summer. hopefully I will have something to share.
My Father Michael is a Porto from Hamden originally from Sherman Ave in New Haven. He was an only child and my Grandfather Andrew had a brother Pete who had just one child. So my Porto relatives going back to the 1950's can be counted on 1 hand. My Great Grandfather is related to Porto funeral Home in East Haven. My mother is an Elefante from Grand Avenue. Her father Ben had a fig tree growing in his yard, so I am following on in his tradition. My mom had a large number of brothers/sisters and all have passed away. Most people from New Haven knew my uncle Jimmy Dogs who passed away 10 years back. Out of all my family, he was the most colorful and I miss him.
Looking forward to summer and seeing the fruits of our efforts!
Andrew
