Is it possible the watery is due to various reasons, maybe give it another year?

Ah the good ole "fig heaven" !

Why trash it? Maybe it gets better with age?

Maybe it was growing in too much shade? I tasted some figs from the community garden on my block. they are small and purple / black dark with a berry flavor and tri lobed leaves but were bland. but the tree grows in between 2 buildings and shaded by a large tree.

I tasted some Petit Negronne that were bland as well even when ripe. picked a few days ago but they were growing shaded.

I wonder if it is better to make some trees less bushy so more air and sun penetrates the canopy.

HAHA......You go James....TESTIFY

My Petite Negri grows in partial shade.  There was originally an oak tree further shading it, and it did not really fruit.  Low heat is the primary cause of Petite Negri blandness, not shade.

Cue further confusion about what anything actually is...

I have no problem with people sending figs to fig heaven. There are so many really good varieties - why waste time, space, resources, and effort trying to bring a 1 up to a mediocre 5? I'd rather give a 6 the opportunity to make it to an 8 or 9.

Just because a variety has an official name doesn't mean it's worth saving. Just my opinion. I don't knowingly give away (and certainly would not sell) inferior plants - it's a waste of everyones time and resources and turns people off about growing things.

James & Figluvah - you got a witness!
